Part 8: Finishing Touches

Final Yamato‘s premiere in March 1983 gave Bandai and its Yamato customers one last spin on the dance floor. Of the kits that concluded a very successful ten years, only one was completely new but model builders who had come to venerate Bandai’s quality had many, many other treasures in store now that this company was positioned as an industry leader for decades to come.

1/500 Space Battleship Yamato “Cosmic Model” (March 1983)

A reissue of the 1978 “Cosmic Model” in slightly revised packaging. Later reissues would eliminate the prepainted lower hull.

1/1000 Space Battleship Yamato (March 1983)

Similar in size to the “gold version” Yamato, this is essentially a scaled-down version of the more accurate kits that followed.

Cosmo Zero (March 1983)

A reissue of the 1977 Cosmo Zero in new packaging to tie in with Final Yamato.

1/700 Space Battleship Yamato (March 1983)

A reissue of the 1980 kit, also eliminating the internal parts of the 1/700 “Mechanic Model.”
