Artist’s description:
The subject is the former Japanese Navy, using pages from the Asahi Shimbun condensed edition before and after April 7, 1945, when the Battleship Yamato sank off the coast of Kagoshima prefecture. The motif is the anime Space Battleship Yamato, which launched from the same place 254 years later.
The anime motif itself is important in the cultural history of Japan, but at the same time the work was created in the postwar period, and the meaning and feelings of the original were still present. That motif was the Battleship Yamato, which became a deified weapon. The fact is that neither can be separated from the other, and this piece brings them together into one form to tell the story of a single era.
The title of the piece is the coordinates where the Battleship Yamato currently rests.
