Yamato's 39th Anniversary This Sunday October 6!

As Tim Eldred pointed out on the Facebook community during the week, Sunday marks 39 years to the day since the first episode of Space Battleship Yamato was broadcast on Japanese TV, and in some way, we should each do something to celebrate!

I myself will be grabbing hold of my recently-purchased (unfortunately subtitle-free) Blu-Ray discs of the original Space Battleship Yamato, putting the first disc in the player, and then watching the first episode at the exact time the episode aired thirty-nine years ago. For me, being in eastern Australia this is easy, as we're one hour ahead of Tokyo, so it will be 8:30pm for me. After the first episode is finished, I'll swap it for Chapter 1 of 2199, and compare them side-by-side for the first time.

Who else is going to mark the occasion, and how?

On the West Coast of the US, this would occur at 2:30 AM (Pacific Daylight TIme), tonight: October 6, 2013.

Unfortunately, I'll still be at work around 2:30 AM...

I wouldn't expect everyone to be able to do it realtime (I'm really lucky that I can being only an hour ahead of Tokyo). For everyone else, as Tim suggested in his post on Facebook, just do it at 7:30pm your local time on the 6th.

I still think it's a shame they wound up 2199 last weekend though. Would have been nice to finish its broadcast on the anniversary.
