REBEL 3199 Chapter 2 trailer, September 2024

Scene breakdown with commentary by Anton Mei Brandt

We begin with the BGM track Yamato under the setting sun with imagery of the ship detaching itself from the concealed bedrock of Asteroid Icarus. Asuka is also present.

Yamanami: Detonate the bedrock charges!

Yamazaki: Flywheel connection, transfer!

Yamanami: Yamato, launch!

Back on Earth, Lt. Alphon is conversing with Yuki in a well-stacked library. He reveals something curious.

Lt. Alphon: The miracle of Iscandar, which saved Earth 1,000 years ago…

Yuki: Cosmo Reverse!

When Alphon says “1000 years ago,” he could either be referring to 1000 years before 2207 (1207), or 1000 years before 3199 (2199). It’s more likely he’s talking from the perspective of his people, but then again, who knows what manner of twists have been concocted by Fukui and co. this time around.

In space, Lambell engages an unknown foe aboard his Grodez-class ship, firing its Infinite Beta Cannon.

Lambell: Infinite Beta Cannon, fire!

Receiving Earth’s military representatives, Skaldart introduces himself to our kind.

Skaldart: I am named Skaldart. The one who ascended to the seat of the High Priest following the invasion of Mother Dezariam.

The wording here is quite interesting. Rather than using the Japanese word for “mother,” as in mother planet, Skaldart chooses the romanized “マザー” (Mazaa) Dezariam,” immediately calling to mind the only other singularity with such a moniker in Yamato history: “Mother Shalbart.” This is likely no coincidence, given that the original script for The New Voyage referenced a war between the Dark Uralians (remember Boroze mentioning “the light of Uralia” in episode 1…?) and the White Shalbartians.

If I may, I’d like to make a prediction here: The mysterious voice of Keiko Han from 2205 (the original voice actress for Be Forever’s Sasha and Yamato III’s Ruda Shalbart) is the new voice of Mother Shalbart. Or rather, Mother Dezariam. She referred to Dezariam as “the light, to Iscandar’s darkness” in the previous work, but as senator Palpatine so astutely observed in Revenge of the Sith, “good is a matter of perspective.” This time, the witch of Uralia will be Keiko Han’s Mother Dezariam, whereas the light of Shalbart will shine through in the new Sasha. At least that’s my belief.

Bolar ships warp out somewhere in what appears to be our Solar System, with Bolar Federation leader Bemlayze making an appearance.

Near an asteroid belt of sorts, Yamato III alumnus (and new character to the remake saga) Takeshi Ageha is seen leading Asuka and its crew to a set of unknown coordinates. His voice surprises former classmate Domon.

Ageha: Guiding them to the designated coordinates.

Asuka engages Lambell in battle, aided by the last Andromeda-class we know of, the Alpheratz, which fires its Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun through the 11th planet’s field of Kalaklum husks as Yamato crashes into the refuse.

Grodez Crew Member: Detecting an excessive expansion of surplus dimensions!

Yamanami: Wave-Motion Cartridge Shells. Prepare to fire!

We see Akira Yamamoto giving Ageha a friendly head rub inside what could be Asteroid base Icarus.

Aboard a Goruba, we see what appears to be 3199’s version of Earth occupation commander Kazan, or perhaps the eight Goruba commander Grotas. Either that, or a new grunt ready to take on Yamato.

Back on Earth, Alphon continues conversing with Yuki.

Lt. Alphon: I, too, wish to learn…about this emotion you call “love.”

Yamato is locked eye-to-eye with the mouth of a Goruba, firing three rounds of its new Wave-Motion Cartridge shells straight into it. The presence of rotating rocks could indicate that this is happening immediately after launch from Icarus.

Yamanami: We, humanity, will never bow down to those who demand our subjugation, even if it means defying our own future!

Kodai: Fire!

Yamanami: Look closely, Dezariam. This…is Yamato!
