A long-term in-depth project on the SF anime Space Battleship Yamato will be carried out on BS10 Star Channel. This project is being launched in response to the 50th anniversary of the first TV broadcast in October. Following the first and second movies, which were broadcast in 4K remaster from January to February, the third movie and subsequent movies (out of a total of seven) will be exclusively broadcast and streamed over a three-month period starting in June. They will also appear on Star Channel EX on the Amazon Prime Video channel.

The New Voyage [HD remaster version] which was broadcast as a TV special in 1979 and released in theaters in 1981, will air June 2. Following the shocking opening with the destruction of the planet Gamilas, and the spectacular flight of the planet Iscandar, Yamato fights a fierce battle against a mysterious enemy, the Dark Nebula Empire. The personal growth of Kodai and his crew as they welcome new crew members, the cooperation of Yamato and the Gamilas fleet led by Dessler, and more developments add new flavors while laying a path for future works.

Be Forever Yamato [HD remaster version], was released in theaters in 1980 as the sequel to The New Voyage. It will premiere on June 9. This is the fourth film depicting the battles of Yamato as it sets off into the galaxy to save Earth, which is occupied by the Dark Nebula Empire. The true identity of this mysterious enemy is finally revealed. The story is packed with ideas, such as the fate of the love between Kodai and Yuki, who have been separated, the appearance of Starsha’s daughter Sasha, and more. In accordance with the intention of the theatrical release, the screen size will change from 4:3 to widescreen and the audio will change from monaural to stereo midway through.

In July, 1983’s Final Yamato [HD remaster version] will be broadcast. This is the fifth movie in the series, which depicts the exploits of Yamato as it faces the threat of Earth being submerged. As befitting the finale, the narration by the great actor Tatsuya Nakadai adds a touch of elegance to the story, from the reappearance of the first captain, Juzo Okita, to the dramatic end of Yamato. In addition to the epic story about the secrets of Earth’s creation, there are battles with the Dengil Empire, which uses a new weapon, the hyper radiation missile. Such highlights will keep you glued to the screen until the very end.

Yamato Resurrection, along with the Resurrection Director’s Cut, will be broadcast in August. Resurrection was produced 26 years after Final Yamato, and is set 17 years later. It was directed by Yoshinobu Nishizaki, who worked on all the films in the series. Yamato faces two threats: a moving black hole and a mysterious allied fleet that stands in the way of humanity’s migration plan. The full CG of Yamato‘s body and the powerful battle scenes are distinctive. The human drama surrounding the 38-year-old captain, Susumu Kodai, is also interesting. The director’s cut is a reorganized version with additional scenes and a different ending.

The TV series Yamato 2 and Yamato III will be shown in August, along with the Yamato 2 compilation and Yamato III: Destruction of the Solar System.
