New footage scene in the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster

Although A Voyage to Remember is a compilation of the Space Battleship Yamato 2199 TV series, some new elements are incorporated into the picture itself. Here, we introduce newly-added shots in the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster.

Did everyone who saw A Voyage to Remember notice shots that didn’t come up in the TV series? Instead of being a mere “compilation movie,” it includes new elements such as 25 additional shots in the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster, new ending illustrations by manga artist Michio Murakawa, and more than 100 retakes throughout the length of the film. Here we’ll look at new shots in the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster.

Episode 20, which was a major climax in the TV series, was filled with a number of factors, such as the depiction of Domel’s step-by-step strategy, the capture of Yuki Mori, and the special drill missile, making it an extremely dense episode. Therefore, before the animation was created from the storyboards drawn by Director Yutaka Izubuchi, various choices were made and some shots were deleted. Although each shot shown below was storyboarded for the TV series, they were all deleted. However, it was decided to produce them for A Voyage to Remember. Many of the new shots were done by Sunrise D.I.D., who was in charge of CG production, and they bring additional power to the Battle of the Rainbow Star Cluster.
