The film is scheduled to be released in theaters from late August to September
One day in April, nearly a month after the final chapter of Yamato was released, the editorial department received a phone call from someone in charge of publicity for Yamato.
“The complete version of Yamato’s final chapter will be released soon, so we will be holding an emergency press conference about it. Please come.”
When the editorial staff heard this, they were all speechless for a while. So, Yamato is immortal after all! But anyway, we headed to the Imperial Hotel at 1 o’clock on April 22, the appointed time. Yoshinobu Nishizaki appeared at the press conference with a solemn expression. His face was pale and haggard, and his eyebrows were twitching from time to time.
“Even in the production of Yamato up until now, it has never been as difficult as it was this time. I don’t know how to apologize enough for the fact that we were only able to show you the unfinished final chapter of Yamato. I’m very sorry. However, it would be a shame to leave it as is. I believe it is our duty and responsibility to the fans to create an opportunity for you to see the Complete Version, so we have decided to re-release it.
That’s it. The rest is up to you to decide. We have no choice but to leave it to them.

Space Battleship Yamato, The Final Chapter Complete Version
Distributed by Toei, released in September
This spring, the final chapter of Space Battleship Yamato was released, bringing its ten-year voyage to a close. As if to bid farewell, it has been decided that a “Complete Version” will be screened in the fall.
Due to schedule delays, some of the scenes that were planned for the final chapter did not arrive in time for release, and there were also delays in delivery to some areas. Producer Nishizaki said, “if things stay like this, I will feel sorry for fans,“ and decided to release the “Complete Version.“
Daisuke Shima‘s younger brother Jiro will appear in scenes not included previously. He appears in flashbacks, playing soccer with Daisuke, and in a scene where Daisuke dies, injured in a deadly battle with Dengil. A new love scene between Kodai and Yuki is also planned. Fans will be able to call this the Complete Version! With the power of the large 70mm screen and four channel sound, and including new scenes, the film will be a blockbuster at two hours and 45 minutes long.
Prior to the release of the Complete Edition, Yamato merchandise such as T-shirts and buttons will be released. The highlight of this is a luxurious 240-page book. It is a record of the “Complete Edition,“ including a digest of all four Yamato theatrical films and all the designs. The original theatrical version of The Final Chapter is now on sale on video tape from VAP. Keep the excitement of Yamato with you forever…
