    1. I couldn’t find any direct ‘e-mail here’ instructions, and I have also considered that comments are not appreciated, but I figured I should just say my piece about how great I think this website is, and you if hate it, you can always remove it:

I was ‘just looking for a theme song’ (since the youtube version got pulled), how hard could that be? Well…after realizing how many tv shows / movies / special releases / etc. this series is comprised of; and that all of them seem to have multiple versions of every song used in the show…I felt like I wanted to be shot out of a cannon into the sun…Fortunately, your fantastic website helped me wrap my head around all this, and more or less pointed out exactly what I was looking for (it was “Uchuu Senkan Yamato” from Project Yamato 2199 (full version)).

Thank you so much for compiling all this information in such detail. I really appreciate it.

      • Comments are always appreciated. The best place to find versions of the theme song is our links page. You’ll find TONS of them there.

    2. Hi Tim!
I saw yours and Zack’s panel at Anime LA. I was smiling all the way through it!
Question for you: I want to get my friends into the Saga. What is the best viewing order to show them all the Series and Movies?
      Thank you for your time!
      YA-MA-TO

      • Glad you had a good time! The viewing order is laid out on the Cosmo DNA home page. It may be fun to watch the originals back to back with their remakes.

    3. I saw you in a video by Xandra Nova. I have been looking for a sweatshirt like the one you were wearing. Specifically the science officer, blue, uniform type. Where is the best place to buy one of those at? I’ve been looking everywhere and can’t find anything closer to that.

      • I bought it in Japan about ten years ago. They’re no longer being made. But something like it could appear again some time. You’ll need a Japanese friend to get one for you, though. If someone starts making them again, I’ll put it in a future monthly report.

        • Thank you for the quick reply. That would be great if you could do that. Hopefully they make a reappearance in the future.

    4. Hi, I’m a Youtube film critic who’s planning on doing a massive retrospective on the Yamato series, from the original Japanese version, to Star Blazers, to the movies, the live action film and finally, the recent remakes. I’ve been a fan of this website since becoming a fan of Yamato, and wanted to ask since I’m trying to do research and also making decisions: I’m gonna be covering the original Japanese Yamato series, and I wanted to import the original series from Japan and use fansubs in order to watch it on my PC as well as be able to rip legitimate footage legally for the video. I found a good offer for a used copy of the blu-ray, but also found a copy of the DVD which is cheaper. Now, since Japanese DVDs are region 2, I wanted to know if anyone of you could tell me whether or not the Japanese DVD release of Space Battleship Yamato is region 2 or region 3, as Japanese DVDs are still NTSC if they’re region 2. I would greatly appreciate if anyone can inform me about this, as I plan to make this the biggest video retrospective possible and give this wonderful franchise a huge spotlight for people to look at and discover since it means so much to me as I’m sure it does to many others. Greatly appreciated, Sebastian from Cinemageddon Reviews.

      • As someone who already made a documentary (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fMJD_Zt1JNo), I wish you luck. This is an extremely complex and many-layered subject, and it will be easy to miss important details. I’m happy to volunteer my fact-checking services and advise you on where to find specific content on Cosmo DNA. Send me a DM via the Facebook page for direct contact.

All Japanese DVDs are region 2, just as all Japanese Blurays are region A.

    5. Dear sir:

SERIOUS Yamato/Star Blazers fan from 1982 onwards. My wife could attest to this along with my several hundred Battleship Yamato models old and new and many hundreds of ship for the miniature game.

My query to you is simple…..sorta: how the hell can schmoes like me get their hands on Japanese Garage Kits (specifically for Battleship Yamato) in the United States…WITHOUT flying to Japan that is????

I am particularly frustrated with the “Ever-So-Tight-Sphincters” at BANDAI. In 2019 Bandai had announced the release of a new 1/1000th scale EDF Fleet Box with the Patrol ship (Wave-Motion Gun fleet design) + Escort ship (Wave-Motion Gun fleet design) + maybe the Main Battleship Dreadnought as well. Obviously they never released it.

Add-On the the above complaint: where in Tartarus are the 1/1000 Gatlantian Ships??????
      GOSTOK-class Missile Battleship
      LASCAUS-class Assault Cruiser
      KUKULKAN-class Assault Destroyer

Obviously they will NEVER give us the Gatlantian APOCALIX-class Super Carrier, CALAKLUM-class Battleship, and MEDALRUSA-class Heavy Annihilation Battleship because they made them too damned big and Bandai regrets giving us the ZEOLEGUT-class Super Dreadnought.

I know that 1/1000 ships are out there and I will start and finish my TEMPER TANTRUM by saying that I WANT THEM TOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Can you help fill this insane hunger???

      Best Regards and AWESOME website
      Martin ‘The Turtle’

P.S.: the 1/350 gimmic shits….I mean ships are just too F&^%ING pricey when they go well over $1000 with shipping….

      • Your best bet is to start scouring online auctions at Yahoo Japan, or dig through the Mandarake website. You’ll need to work your way through Japanese text and sign on with a Japanese agent to buy and ship for you. If you’re serious about it, I can set you up with info. But it won’t be quick or cheap. This is one area where we are most certainly not the intended audience.

        • Tell me more…..please……

….and this is so seriously F*&^ed up because we should have at least SOME access to this stuff.

Any ideas on what is going on with Bandai and not releasing what they have promised or making what they should???

          • Here is the home page for Yahoo Japan Auctions: https://auctions.yahoo.co.jp/#
Use this as your search term: 宇宙戦艦ヤマト
If you can’t navigate in Japanese, your browser may have a translator function. Otherwise, just keep poking around until you find settings that work for you.

Here is the home page for Mandarake (English side): https://order.mandarake.co.jp/order/?lang=en
There’s not much available right now, but the stock changes frequently.

Here is a Japanese agent to buy and ship for you: https://cathandsagent.com/
Send him an email here: order@cathandsagent.com

This is not an easy or quick path to take, but I’ve been on the path for over a decade and the treasures it has produced make every step worth taking.

            • Tim:

              NAMASTE……

I have been checking Mandrake since your first reply and it looks a lot like Jungle SCS (http://jungle-scs.co.jp) but more extensive in certain areas.

Yahoo Auctions will be a challenge but I will do my best.

I have used many translation matrices translating wiki.jp stuff (mostly Yamato based articles) so I think I can muddle through it.

I take it that you have used that particular agent before???
So I email the agent first to arrange things or what??? Not quite sure.

….and knowing is half the battle. Winning the battle is the other 75%….or something like that.

            • I’ve been using that agent’s services since 2006, and have filled many a shelf with the results. Send him an email to introduce yourself and tell him I sent you. Say that you want to become a new customer and ask for advice on how to submit a request. Then start hunting. When you find something you want him to order or bid on for you, send him the URL and follow whatever instructions he gives you. Best of luck!

              PS: it’s not “Mandrake,” it’s Man-dah-rah-kay.

    6. Hello
I’m trying to build a model of the 2199 Yamato, but I have searched and searched and I can’t find the official dimensions of the ship. I know she’s 333 meter long but I can’t find her width and height. Does anyone know or know where to find that info I’d greatly appreciate it. The site is amazing by the way. I love the episode explanation and commentary. I really needed it for 2202 ha ha ha. Thank you in advance.

      • Hi, I have the artbook from the series, and the dimensions are not given as far as I can see, but getting the calipers out I estimate the width to be 62.7m and the height to be 101.4m. Thats measured from the most extreme points of the wings/fins for the width, the very very top bit of the command tower to the tip of the bottom fin for the height.
Treat my measurments with a pinch of salt, but if it helps with your confidence in my numbers I work in CAD and have to reverse model stuff like this from sketches all the time (although generally much much simpler that the Yamato!) Let me know how you get on.
        I hope this helps!

    7. Hey there Tim, I’m a long-term reader. I’m a bit trapped in the USA, but eager to learn how to watch 2205 to be prepared for the coming series. Do you have advice for catching-up via physical media or online services? (BTW, I have a proper VPN, language-skills & motivation!) Sincere regards,
      -JP

      • You have two options; either purchase the Japanese blu-rays (not subtitled or dubbed) from Amazon.co.jp/CD Japan or download fansubs of the episodes from a bittorrent site. I recommend both so you can financially support the cause and also get a translated version.
