REBEL 3199 character guide, part 2

Asuka / Hyuga / Ginga Crew Members

Seiya Kitano

Voice: Kosuke Toriumi

Rank: Second Lieutenant
Date of birth: August 8, 2171. Leo. 36 years old

An excellent soldier who calmly discerns the subtleties of offense and defense. He is also extremely talented as a leader. During the Garmillas War, he was a candidate for the “Yamato Plan” but was injured in an accident and was unable to board the Yamato.

After the war, Seiya healed his wounds and returned to military service as an instructor at the Space Defense Academy. He devoted his efforts to nurturing the younger generation through strict guidance that earned him the nickname “Devil Kitano.” Domon and the others from the 38th class are Seiya Kitano’s “last students.” Tetsuya Kitano, who served as the tactical chief aboard Yamato, is his younger brother.

Chapter 1 update:

Second Captain of the Supply Carrier Asuka (DAOE-01)

He was an instructor at the National Defense Academy, but at the request of Commander-in-Chief Todo, he returned to the front lines as a key part of the countermeasures against Dezarium. He called his students, Domon and others, aboard the supply ship Asuka, where he serves as captain, to prepare for “that day.” The triple interception strategy of “Operation DAD” was planned by Seiya Kitano. Although he was unable to hold back the Grand Reverse, there is no doubt that he will play an important role in the upcoming battle against Dezarium.

Chapter 2 update:

“Captain Kodai, when we get to Yamato, everyone’s eyes will be on you. There’ll be no time left to process your feelings.”

During the Garmillas War, he suffered a serious accident and had nearly half of his body mechanized, saving his life. His younger brother is Kitano Tetsuya, the tactical officer of Hyuga. He conveyed to Kodai, who was heartbroken, what a captain should be like.

Chapter 3 update:

“Focus fire! Don’t miss!”

Asuka, commanded by Kitano, returns to Earth after seeing off Yamato, which is heading for the space-time node. In response to the partisan counterattack, he attacks the Grand Reverse with a single ship, but is captured.

Jimi Sosuke

Navigation officer, supply carrier Asuka
Rank: First Lieutenant
Date of Birth: May 21, 2177, Gemini, 30 years old

He has been at Asuka‘s helm since its first voyage, during the “Iscandar Incident.” He is a workaholic with a craftsman-like personality, and never speaks privately on the bridge. He is an old acquaintance of Seiya Kitano, the current captain of Asuka. During the Garmillas War, Jimi served on a Murasame-class space cruiser where Kitano was the first officer. At home, he is a doting father to his two daughters.

Hiroki Shinohara

Voice: Daisuke Hirakawa

Former Hyuga tactical division wing commander, current commander of Combat Aircraft Carrier Hyuga (DCV-01)
Rank: 3rd Class Lieutenant Colonel (wartime exception)
Date of Birth: October 19, 2175. 31 years old.

Served as vice commander of Yamato‘s Air Corps and captain of the Hyuga Air Force.

During the reorganization of the 65th Escort Squadron, he was approached by Vice-Commander Serizawa to take over the position of Hyuga Captain. Although the requirement for an aircraft carrier captain is to have pilot experience, this was beyond Shinohara’s imagination. At first, he strongly expressed his intention to resign, but upon hearing of the “Operation DAD” concept, which centered on people with experience in fighting Dezarium, he accepted.

There is an anecdote that he approached Serizawa and said, “However, I won’t cut my hair. Is that okay?”

Chapter 1 update:

Currently Captain of Combat Aircraft Carrier Hyuga (DCV-01)

As part of the “Operation DAD” initiative, almost all of the 65th Escort Squadron’s airmen were reorganized into the Hyuga Air Group. Hyuga is now home to a host of veteran warriors, including the “problem child” Shigeru Sakamoto, who was entrusted to him by Akira Yamamoto.

It is Shinohara’s innermost goal to achieve victory without sacrificing their lives. However, Hyuga is unable to stop the Grand Reverse’s invasion, and is also unable to escape from the Earth that has been occupied by Dezarium. Will the new Captain Shinohara and Hyuga be able to make a comeback?

Chapter 2 update:

The second captain of Hyuga.

While retrieving escape pods from the former Yamato fleet crew, Hyuga is captured by the Dezarium military. “Why didn’t I notice…?” Shinohara bit his lip in dismay at his blunder, but the situation was even more serious than that. The identification signals emitted by the four enemy battleships surrounding Hyuga had been replaced with Earth military codes without Shinohara realizing. Shinohara is horrified when he realizes “we’re in a situation where we can no longer recognize enemy ships as enemy ships.”

Chapter 3 update:

The day after their capture, the Hyuga crew was released without questioning. It is proof that Dezarium and the Defense Force are working together. Meanwhile, Shinohara agrees to the “plan” of Toru Hoshina, who has secretly contacted him. While officially remaining members of the Defense Force, the entire Hyuga crew chooses to engage in resistance activities as partisans. Shinohara and his crew fly the Cosmo Falcon, which had been mothballed after the Battle of Gatlantis, to disrupt Dezarium.

Tetsuya Kitano

Voice: Ryuichi Kijima

Former Yamato Chief Tactical Officer, Tactical division
Rank: 1st Lieutenant, Special Service
Date of Birth: October 29, 2178. Scorpio. 28 years old

A capable officer who has supported the Tactical division since its first voyage to Iscandar. During the “Iscandar Incident,” where he first encountered the Dezarium army, he commanded the battle as chief tactical officer. Although he had trouble with Ryusuke Domon, who was a rookie at the time, he continued to look at Domon’s potential with fair eyes.

After the reorganization of the 65th Escort Squadron, he left Yamato to serve on another ship.

Chapter 1 update:

Currently a member of the 28th Escort Squadron, Combat Aircraft Carrier Hyuga, Tactical Department Chief

He currently serves aboard the Combat Carrier Hyuga as part of the newly formed 28th Escort Division, where he serves as tactical officer. The escort squadron forms a second line of defense near Mars during the Grand Reverse interception battle. They fired a volley of dispersion wave cannons, but it is ineffective and their defense line is breached.

Kitano is speechless as he once again witnesses the threat of the “phase armor” that he experienced in the battle with Goruba. The commander of the Asuka-class fleet, Seiya Kitano, is Tetsuya Kitano’s older brother.

Chapter 3 update:

While officially performing his military duties, he secretly engages in resistance activities. During a rebellion operation, he infiltrates the newly-constructed battleship Arizona while it is being fitted out, activates its main guns, and bombards the Grand Reverse.

Shigeru Sakamoto

Voice: Kento Ito

Former Yamato Airman, Tactical division
Rank: Warrant Officer
Date of Birth: December 21, 2185. Sagittarius. 21 years old

He is a rookie aviator with excellent piloting skills, but is considered by everyone to be mentally challenged. Now that the 65th Escort Squadron has been reorganized, he is separated from Captain Akira Yamamoto (the Red Demon) and belongs to the air corps on a different ship.

Sakamoto was once described by Captain Mori as “the type who rushes to die,” but how is his mental growth now that he has been officially appointed?

Chapter 1 update:

Currently a member of the 28th Escort Squadron, Combat Aircraft Carrier Hyuga, Tactical Department, Air Force Squadron

Sakamoto currently belongs to the air wing of the battle aircraft carrier Hyuga, which is captained by Hiroki Shinohara. The easygoing and affable Shinohara’s teaching philosophy is to “not put any more pressure on them than necessary, but simply to emphasize the importance of surviving.” Perhaps this “hands-off” approach suits Sakamoto. Although he still considers himself the number one fighter pilot, he’s no longer the type of person who “rushes to death.”

His reunion with the genius Takeshi Ageha – the only man he couldn’t beat during his days at the National Defense Academy – is fast approaching.

Chapter 2 update:

Hyuga was captured by Dezarium, but the crew was released immediately without questioning. Sakamoto doesn’t like this gentlemanly response. His former Yankee nose is sensitive to Dezarium’s true intentions.

Chapter 3 update:

He senses the stench of deception. His “eye for an eye” Yankee spirit is also evident when he readily accepts Shinohara’s offer to “serve in the military on the surface, but become partisans behind the scenes.” In an old-fashioned aircraft with no serial number or unit insignia, Sakamoto toys with the Dezarium forces.

Saki Todo

Voice: Ayahi Takagaki

Captain of the experimental Wave-Motion ship Ginga (BBY-03)
Rank: Commander, Third class
Date of Birth: November 14, 2176. Scorpio. 30 years old

Calculations for repairing the destroyed moon were carried out by Ginga‘s Cosmo Reverse System, which had lost most of its functionality. The Cosmo Reverse is now rooted in the entire system of the ship, and Ginga is unable to use its weapons as a result. Saki’s feelings are complicated, since she is in charge of a battleship that cannot fight. But…

“Is it okay to have at least one such ship…?”

The look in her eyes, now calmer than before, seems to be expressing Saki’s feelings.

Chapter 1 update:

In order to restore Saturn, which suffered tremendous damage in the interstellar war, Saki Todo is now leading the Restoration Fleet and conducting on-site investigations. Accompanying them on the flagship Ginga is Susumu Kodai, who has been dismissed from his position as captain of Yamato, assuming the title of “Saturn Restoration Project Inspector.” In the Saturn space region, a peaceful time flows, free from conflict.

However, this is shattered when Dezarium launches its invasion of Earth. How will Kodai and Saki, who is in charge of the battleship Ginga, which cannot use weapons, act?

Chapter 2 update:

“Confiscating the Ginga, maybe, but why do you need to take XO Kanzaki?!”

Four years have passed since they were entrusted with the “battleship that refuses to use weapons.” Thanks to the efforts of Vice-Commander Megumi Kanzaki, who shared her joys and sorrows with her, Ginga fired its main gun and allowed Asuka to successfully escape from Earth. However, the cost was too high. Kanzaki fell into a coma, and the damaged Ginga crashed onto the surface of the moon. Furthermore, Dezarium requested that Kanzaki be handed over. Saki was enraged and resisted violently, but…

Chapter 3 update:

“No… this isn’t…!”

Ginga, the “battleship that refuses to use weapons,” finally fires its main guns thanks to the efforts of its XO, Megumi Kanzaki. But the price is high. Ginga is damaged and crashes onto the moon’s surface. Kanzaki, who is in a brain-dead state, is transferred to Dezarium.

Two weeks later, thanks to Dezarium’s medical technology, Kanzaki makes a full recovery. But Saki feels a strong sense of unease about her demeanor, as if her personality has been rewritten. Will Saki be able to get her best friend back, who has become a “poster girl for Dezarium”?

Mina Ichinose

Voice: Tomoyo Kurosawa

Navigator, Ginga navigation department
Rank: Third Lieutenant
Date of birth: January 4, 2183. Capricorn, 24 years old.

Chief Navigator of the Experimental Wave-Motion Ship Ginga.

During the Gatlantis War, she received guidance on ship handling techniques from Daisuke Shima. At that time, Ichinose was a young woman with a fierce side who was not satisfied with her own abilities and wanted to improve her reaction speed even if it meant mechanizing her body. Now, four years later, those thoughts are gone from her mind.

Her extreme sense of elitism has faded, and she has become able to look at things with an open mind. After all, people change.

Chapter 2 update:

In response to Deputy Commander Kanzaki’s wishes, the fire control seal was lifted. Ginga‘s transformation was instantaneous, but Ichinose secretly has a premonition of what lies beyond this change.

Urara Kusakabe

Voice: Arisa Komiya

Chief tactical officer, Ginga tactical department
Rank: Third Lieutenant
Date of birth: February 9, 2182. Aquarius, 25 years old.

Tactical chief on the Experimental Wave-Motion Ship Ginga.

She enrolled at the North American Space Naval Academy at the end of the Garmillas War. Although she was highly praised for her ability to overturn all the tactics of the command AI, she caused problems and was expelled from school. After the end of the war, she was invited by Megumi Kanzaki to join the “G Plan”, promoted by the Far East District. She is involved in the development of tactical AI for the Experimental Wave-Motion Ship Ginga.

Kusakabe’s ability is recognized by everyone, but Ginga currently refuses to allow human fire control due to the influence of the Cosmo Reverse. As expected, Kusakabe is struggling with this.

Chapter 2 update:

Ginga currently remains stranded on the moon after crashing, but Kusakabe continues to explore the possibility of human fire control.

Natsuki Oshima

(Bottom left)

・Navigation Officer, combat carrier Hyuga
・Rank: Third Class Lieutenant
・Date of Birth: December 3, 2180, Sagittarius, 26 years old

On the first voyage to Iscandar, she was in charge of route planning. Eight years have passed since then. Oshima has finally become an officer. Captain Shinohara recognized her extraordinary skills in sailing and selected her as Hyuga‘s helmsman. Hyuga retrieves the former 65th Escort Squadron members and escapes from Earth, which has been occupied by the Dezarium army. Natsuki Oshima is at the helm.

Sayaka Kashiwagi

(Top left)

・Chief radar operator, combat carrier Hyuga
・Rank: Third Class Lieutenant
・Date of birth: June 17, 2179, Gemini, 28 years old

Before the reorganization of the 65th Escort Squadron, she was the chief radar operator on the supply carrier Asuka. She is currently assigned to Hyuga, where she oversees the radar division. Even though she is busy, she pays attention to her appearance, and always wears her hair in a light wave half-up style.

Satomi Matsui

(Top right)

・Technical chief, combat carrier Hyuga, in charge of communications analysis
・Rank: Third Class Lieutenant
・Date of birth: April 16, 2179, Aries, 28 years old

For Matsui, who has supported the voyage of the Yamato for many years as a technical officer, a big turning point came with the reorganization of the 65th Escort Squadron. She was transferred to Hyuga, where Shiro Sanada was both captain and chief technical officer. Moreover, she was to be entrusted with the role of chief technical officer. Matsui was forced to back down from this personnel change, but she was persuaded by the new captain, Shinohara, who said, “I’m counting on you. Let’s fill in the gap left by Sanada-san,” and she finally decided to accept the promotion.

Analyzers AU19

An autonomous sub frame unit of Hyuga designed by the previous captain, Sanada Shiro.

Blue: 15 units/air traffic control and catapult management
Yellow: 18 units/maintenance, supply
Pink: 7 units/fire control

A total of 40 units work together to efficiently carry out control, maintenance, catapult management, etc. The three units deployed on the bridge are the leaders of each section, and their AI is so advanced that they show human-like differences in personality.

White Analyzer AU13

Autonomous support AI unit deployed on the first bridge of the Wave-Motion experimental ship Ginga.

This machine is a descendant of the command AI unit destroyed by Captain Saki Todo during the Battle of Gatlantis, but its current authority is greatly limited and its appearance is milder. In response to the call of the new Analyzer to “assemble” and resist the Dezarium army’s invasion of Earth, it conveyed to the crew of Ginga that “Yamato is alive and well.”
