The reference to the subtitle (episode title) and commercial messages refers only to the tape that was used in the recording studio. Both were present there in the Japanese broadcast, but cut from the American version.

Despite the rampant rewriting around all the death scenes, Eager actually was okay. There was no corresponding line in the original that stated otherwise.

Dash, on the other hand, DOES get blown away in the original, as indicated at the bottom of the page. Lucky for him, everyone in Japan seemed to forget it ever happened.

Cutting Orion’s death from the show was understandable, given all the other changes made, but that’s the one you really need to FEEL to understand how hopeless this battle has become.

The note at the bottom of this page refers to a shot where Trelaina’s mouth was cropped out of the tape being used in the recording studio, which was an important factor for her voice actor. “May be OC on film” meant “may be on-camera on film.” Which it was.

The “40 seconds Trelaina sacrifice” was a pretty important moment in the original. The “blood transfusion” was literally a sacrifice; she was giving Venture her life force and said that she would only live on inside him. That’s how the story would have gone if she hadn’t had to stop the process to go and wipe out Zordar. (Which explains why Shima didn’t fully recover on screen.)

Dr. Sane’s line at the bottom of the page was far more grim in the original. Instead of eighteen wounded, he reported eighteen survivors.

The note about a “jolted” effect was a good idea for verisimilitude, but it wasn’t heard that way in the finished episode. It might have been attempted in the studio and judged to be unsuccessful.

“SCHMALTZY”??? No, the word you were looking for was “MAGNIFICENT.”

The extra addition to Nova’s line has the initials “JB” in front of it, which we know to mean Producer John Bacall. The meaning of “TLG” is unclear. Only the “I love you” portion of the line was heard in the finished show.

The “dirge music” mentioned at the end of the page was exactly that; a men’s chorus singing one verse of the Yamato theme in Japanese (likely the same recording used for the first Series 1 opening). Naturally, it couldn’t be used in Star Blazers.

The last portion of Trelaina’s line, “and always will,” was not heard in the finished show.

The “no Japanese” indicator on Trelaina’s final lines was literally true; in the original version, she said nothing. Which made her even scarier.

Star Blazers ended with a fade out on the ship and eliminated the epilogue, which consisted of the ship flying back to Earth (a shot reused at the beginning of The New Voyage) and a short paragraph of text.

One story has come to an end, but the universe remains unchanged. No one’s alone. There must be someone to connect with somewhere nearby. Knowing that is what it means to love. But sometimes we lose sight of such a connection. Lack of love makes no one happy.
