Early in the morning of August 5, or more precisely, from the night of August 4, Yamato fever swept the nation. It was the first day of the release of Farewell to Yamato. Eight theaters in Tokyo opened at 4:30 in the morning. On that day alone, 33,000 people lined up in front of theaters to see the film. In its first two weeks, the film drew 1.44 million viewers nationwide and grossed 1.5 billion yen at the box office. It was a bigger hit than the previous film, Space Battleship Yamato. The programs and posters sold very well at the theater.

Here is a piece of happy news: Space Battleship Yamato 2, the TV version of Farewell to Yamato, will be aired from this fall. Yamato‘s adventure unfolds with new concepts, such as the romance between Kodai and Yuki, which could not be fully expressed in the movie, the new mecha of the Earth Defense Forces, the deadly battle against the Gatlantis Empire, and more. The program will start airing on October 14 every Saturday night from 7:00 to 7:30 p.m. 31 stations will air the program nationwide with NTV as the key station. The series will be completed in 26 episodes.
