Yamato forever!

The Last Battle! Yamato vs Comet Empire

Teresa and Shima come back! Kodai and Yuki are the only two left on Yamato! The voice of Emperor Zordar echoes as if mocking the Earth. What kind of battle will Yamato put up in the face of the super giant battleship?

Yamato‘s attack is launched against the White Comet Empire, which has landed in the Pacific Ocean. Following Dessler’s instructions, the Cosmo Tiger squadron dive-bombs the Empire from directly overhead while Yamato conducts a torpedo attack on the lower part from underwater.

The Empire is surprised by the sudden attack. Parts of the control center are destroyed and structures catch fire. Suddenly, the entire upper part of the empire rotates and anti-aircraft fire begins. The city empire surfaces and takes off, enveloped in a barrage of bullets and water plumes. Yamato and the Cosmo Tigers followed suit.

The city empire comes to a halt and its vulcan cannons open fire all at once. Yamato tries to find cover in the lower part, but is also under heavy fire from the crater guns. At this rate, they are just waiting for annihilation. Sanada and Shinmai find a fighter launch port in the lower part of the empire, and they decide to infiltrate. The only way is to destroy the power source directly!

Kodai, Sanada, and Saito enter through the launch port and finally blow up the power source at the cost of many lives. Yamato also fires a volley. A white flash envelopes the universe and scatters the wreckage of the empire. But this is not the end of the battle.

A strange shadow emerges from the burning city empire…a giant battleship! Zordar’s triumphant laugh echoes. Even Yamato seems like a small boat before this monster. The face of the emperor appears on Yamato‘s panel.

“The attacks will continue,” he said. “Every star in the universe, every living thing, every drop of blood is mine. Yamato, watch as Earth crumbles to dust.”

All of Yamato‘s guns are disabled by the bombardment of the giant battleship. A number of people are killed and injured. The main guns of the giant battleship aim at Earth while Yamato is in flames. The Matterhorn, the Pacific islands, and Megalopolis…places everywhere on Earth are engulfed in flames, to be destroyed. Is this the end? Can’t even Yamato save the Earth?

As Kodai looks at the burning Earth, he secretly makes up his mind. The only way to confront the giant battleship with the crippled Yamato. Yamato itself will become a missile, using its nuclear reactor as a detonator to destroy the battleship. Kodai evacuates the survivors and remains alone on board Yamato. Footsteps approach behind him as he stares at the departing lifeboats. It is Yuki. She also stayed behind, thinking that Earth would be meaningless without him. The two sit side by side in the captain’s seat. Yamato turns to face the giant battleship.

Then the Terezarium approaches, which had been drifting through space with Shima and Teresa on board. Kodai and Yuki are amazed. Teresa appears on the panel, holding Shima. She was searching for Yamato while transfusing Shima with her own blood. Teresa moves from Terezarium to Yamato, still holding him.

“Now, I give you Shima. I will take the battle to Zordar. You must return home alive for the future of Earth. Good-bye, Kodai-san, Yuki-san, and Shima-san.”

When she finishes saying this, Teresa quietly flies up into the air, enveloped in a glow, to fight the giant battleship alone. Just like when she blew up Telezart and blocked the path of the White Comet.

Teresa glows as she drifts through space, approaching the giant battleship at a rapidly increasing speed. Inside the battleship is Zordar, smiling triumphantly. But he is stunned to see Teresa approaching. Fear flashes across his face. He immediately calls off the attack and turns the battleship dramatically. Teresa chases after it. The giant battleship moves further and further away in the darkness, disappearing from Kodai and Yuki’s view…

A ray of light shines out in the dark universe. A bright circle emerges and expands rapidly. Teresa’s psychic powers have destroyed the giant battleship.

Kodai and Yuki stand beside Shima, who is lying unconscious. Tears flow down their cheeks….

“Thank you Teresa.”

Kodai and Yuki salute. Toward the Earth that has been burned to a bright red, the injured Space Battleship Yamato returns home.

Kodai and Yuki and Teresa and Shima

Beautiful love shining in the universe

As the final Episode 26 approached, we got a lot of letters from fans. Among them, the most popular topics were Kodai and Yuki, and what would happen to Shima and Teresa!

“It doesn’t have to be a happy ending, at least let Teresa and Shima meet one more time.” (M.H., Kyoto)

“I hope Shima and Teresa can stay together forever…” (Y.W., Yokohama)

“I love the way Yuki and Kodai depart into eternal space with Yamato. So the final scene shouldn’t be too different from the movie.” (Y.U., Kanagawa)

“I want Kodai to be happy.” (T.H., Kyoto) and so on.

Dear fans, Episode 26 has aired. What are your thoughts on it? It was quite different from the last scene in the movie Farewell. However, the TV climax also had scenes and lines that were just as moving. Even though they have different stories, Kodai and Yuki have kept their love alive. At one point, the two of them were willing to risk their lives.

“I definitely don’t want you to stay here alone. Earth doesn’t mean anything to me without you.”

“Thank you, Yuki!

“We…we didn’t even have the wedding.”

“Yuki, from now on we will always be together.”

They were tied together while they were alive. This might have been better for both of them than the movie.

On the other hand, what about Shima and Teresa? The love between these two was tragic (they had to separate). Doesn’t this meet everyone’s expectations? Teresa rescued Shima from drifting through space and risked her life to give him her blood. Shima’s lips, which had been purple, gradually turned rosy. If it continued like this, they could be together forever, even if they became wanderers in space.

But Teresa chose a different path. She left Shima in the hands of Kodai and Yuki, and faced the giant battleship herself. That last clear voice of Teresa is in our hearts. More than anyone else, it will remain in Shima’s heart forever.

Scattered with prayers for peace on Earth and in the universe

Farewell, Warriors of Love

Thanks to Teresa, the seemingly hopeless battle against White Comet was won. However, the sacrifices made to get to this point were far too great.

As the captain of Andromeda, the flagship of the Earth Defense Fleet, he was always there to protect Yamato in any way he could. In the end, Ryu Hijikata, along with Kodai and others, defeated the Baruze fleet. He was Kodai’s “mentor” from the time he was in training school. He challenged the White Comet and scattered into space along with Andromeda.

Hajime Saito had been a Yamato crew member ever since his rescue from Planet 11. Because of his fierce temper, he clashed several times with Kodai and other members of the crew. But at heart, he was a shy and gentle man. He thought of Kodai, who was younger than him, as his “big brother.” He played a major role in the destruction of the Comet Empire, protecting Kodai so he would be the only one to fall to enemy fire. He was one of those who believed in the love of the universe.

Then there was Saburo Kato. As captain of the Cosmo Tiger squadron, he had been together with them since the start of Yamato‘s journey. In the battle of the Comet Empire, he lost all of his men, but fought to the end until he ran out of strength.

They weren’t Yamato‘s only sacrifices. The famous Chief Engineer Tokugawa also died in the last battle. Even though Shinmai was a rookie, he used his wits to free Yamato from the hollow planetoid and discovered the launch port of the Comet Empire. Shortly thereafter, he was hit by enemy fire. He never forgot his humor in any situation.

Sanada survived but lost his mechanical leg, and Aihara and Ota were seriously injured. Only 18 people survived, including Kodai and Yuki. Nearly all of them were injured.

And not only Yamato, but Andromeda and the rest of the Earth Defense Fleet were wiped out. It can be said that the defenders of the 11th planet, as well as the defenders of Mars and the Moon, were almost completely lost. On Earth itself, many citizens lost their lives after Megalopolis was hit by the main guns of the giant battleship.

And the losses didn’t only happen on the Yamato/Earth side. Let us not forget the tragedy of the brave Mazer of the Comet Empire. Dessler also lost many of his men. Each of them fought and died for peace and prosperity.

That’s why Kodai made this promise in the last scene —

“Miracles only happen once. We will never make the same mistake again. We love other people, we love life in the universe, and we want to create a beautiful planet.”

To be aired on July 21!

All about the Yamato telefeature

A “Yamato telefeature,” the follow-up to Yamato 2, is set to air on July 21 (Fuji TV national network). Here is a synopsis of the anticipated film as told by Producer Nishizaki himself:

Dessler saw something similar to his former self in Kodai, risking his life to fight for Earth’s humanity. He was moved by the strength of Yuki’s love for Kodai, desperately trying to protect him. (Yamato 2, Episode 24)

Avoiding a confrontation, he once again sets out to rebuild Gamilas. Before embarking on a new journey, he wants to see his mother planet one more time. He stops at Gamilas, but right before his eyes, Gamilas explodes and disappears. This was done by the Dark Nebula Empire, which is waging a great interstellar war 530,000 light years away. It is the work of an “autoplanet” (which is very big) and its fleet. They tried and failed to extract a substance called Gamilasium from Gamilas as energy needed for war, which destroyed the planet itself.

Although it was a dying planet, Gamilas was Dessler’s home. His sadness and anger are great.

After losing its twin planet, Iscandar loses its balance and begins to run wild through space. The “autoplanet” group wants to obtain Iscandarium instead of a Gamilasium, so they follow Iscandar. Though Dessler once opposed Starsha, he secretly feels love for her and orders his fleet to protect Iscandar. They send a message to Yamato saying, “Iscandar is in crisis!”

It’s time for Yamato to step in. And….
