An analysis of Yasuo Nanbu and Kozo Nanbu

See the original post here

Even as an elementary school student, I thought Yasuo Nanbu’s glasses and long hair in the original work were unfashionable, very Showa-era. He was the heir to Nanbu Heavy Industries, and while he appeared gentle-looking, he was surprisingly short-tempered.

It was Nanbu who first began calling the instantaneous matter transporter tactic the “Dessler tactic” after seeing it in Yamato 2. Domel was the first to use the instantaneous matter transporter, so it would make sense to call it the “Domel tactic” or the “Gamilas tactic,” but it seems a bit far-fetched to call it Dessler’s tactic, since he had never used it before.

Nanbu’s appearance changed completely in the remake, and he’s become a character with no resemblance to his original form. Personally, I think it would feel strange to keep him the way he was in the original, and I think the current version is better. Since his appearance changed, he appears more often, and in 3199 he becomes a key character to the story, along with his father’s structure.

Nanbu, Domon, and Ageha appear more often, and to prevent the main character from being overshadowed, a personal confrontation between Kodai and Alphon was added. However, this came at the expense of Shima, who has become increasingly obscured. The plotline with Teresa was cut from 2202 as well, so Shima really doesn’t have many scenes.

In 3199, Nanbu will likely represent the position of Earthlings living in the present and confront his father Kozo, who blindly accepts Dezarium’s arguments and pushes forward with a policy of assimilation with Dezarium. I’m looking forward to seeing what Nanbu does next.

I’m furious at how Dezarium deceives Earthlings and uses underhanded tactics to get them to turn against the Garmillas Empire, but I feel even more anger toward Kozo Nanbu and Nobuno Todo, who actively cooperate with them. Believing Dezarium’s sweet words and putting Earthling lives at risk makes you wonder what kind of people in positions of responsibility they are.

Moreover, it would be one thing if Earth and Dezarium had simply formed an alliance, but I think it’s completely excessive to have Dezarium troops stationed on Earth and Dezarium people settling there. If trouble were to arise between the Earthlings and the Dezarians and they wanted to ask the Dezarians to leave, bloodshed would be unavoidable, because the planet is under military occupation.

To begin with, even if we’re talking about Earthlings of the future, the idea of relying on those stronger than yourself to protect you is wrong. If you accept that, you’ll have no choice but to do what the strong tell you to. You have to protect your own country.

But I’m sure we’ll have a tear-jerking moment revealing that both Nobuno and Kozo had their reasons for siding with Dezarium. I have a feeling that the story will unfold in such a way that they both realize their mistake, sacrifice their lives, and play a decisive role in the fight against Dezarium. I think people who hold such mistaken views should be arrested by Earthlings after the battle with Dezarium is over for inciting foreign aggression, and executed by Earthlings themselves.

If something like 3199 were to happen in the real world, after the war there would be calls to “find out those who cooperated with Dezarium!!” and something like Stalin’s Great Purge would probably occur. I think the Earth government also bears some responsibility for being manipulated by Dezarium to the point where the Earth military was rendered dysfunctional, and for not taking any action until then.

Dezarium, Kozo, and Shinobu are truly infuriating, so I hope they’re all completely annihilated by the Hyper Dessler Cannon.

Thoughts on Ryusuke Domon and Takeshi Ageha

See the original post here

I’m worried that Domon and Ageha will be too intrusive in 3199, overshadowing Kodai. Also, as I’ve written many times, I think the original series’ “kill someone in battle to elicit tears” formula is outdated. So, I’d like to see Domon and Ageha’s appearances reduced to a certain extent, and that they won’t die in battle. Yamamoto survived, despite changing gender, so it shouldn’t be a problem if Domon and Ageha survive as well.

In the original work, Domon risked his life to repair the Hydro Cosmogen Cannon and died in battle when he ran out of strength. However, it’s hard to imagine a planet-destroying missile hitting the sun while Dezarium is occupying Earth.

If that were the case, Dezarium would be seen as a weak enemy unable to even shoot down a planet-destroying missile. The story would become complicated if Earth were occupied by Dezarium and the sun’s nuclear fusion were to increase, leaving Earth with only one year left to live. So if Domon were to die in battle, it would likely be in a different vein from the original.

The storyline in which the Bolar Federation fleet led by Chairman Bemlayze appears near Earth and engages in battle with the Gamilas fleet has been cut, and the decisive battle between the Bolar and Garmillas will likely take place somewhere other than Earth. So, it’s unclear whether Ageha will make a suicide run into the Zespaze’s black hole cannon launch port.

Unlike the original, the Garmillas Empire is at a significant disadvantage, and it seems they’re overwhelmed just defending their home planet, so it will be interesting to see how they make a comeback from here and bring the battle to a decisive end with the Bolar Federation.

By switching from Garmillas ships to Galman-Garmillas ships, will they be able to defeat the Bolar Federation fleet with a small, elite fleet? I’ve seen the designs for the large battleships online, so I’m sure things like twin-triple-deck carriers and Dessler gunboats will appear. However, I’ll be disappointed if the remake staff were to once again use original flagship designs like the Deusula or Neu Deusula just because they want to “leave their mark,” and my favorite New Dessler Ship doesn’t make an appearance.

I’ve gone off topic, but Domon’s father and Ageha’s mother died tragically, so I hope they live long lives and find happiness to make up for it. If Sasha, Domon, and Ageha all die, I think it would be too heavy for a modern anime. I hope they change Yamato‘s Showa-era style of “let someone die in battle to make us cry.”

With less than a month until the release of Chapter 4, I’m really looking forward to it!!

Thoughts on President Dessler

See the original post here

Garmillans can only survive in certain environments, yet Dessler destroyed the Garmillas home planet himself, so I don’t know what he intended to do after that. There’s no explanation for why General Talan and Frakken joined the Garmillas government when it was formed without Dessler. It was also strange that he was having a normal conversation with Vice President Hyss.

2199 made so many terrible changes to the original that it ended up causing inconsistencies in subsequent remakes. The touching reunion with Kodai’s brother Mamoru was cut, and there’s also no scene where Kodai smiles as he sees off his brother, whom he cherishes, as he remains on Iscandar with Starsha. I think the scriptwriter for 2199 didn’t understand what was great about Yamato.

It seems like the more people like 2199, the more they dislike 2205, but I think 2205 was a great work that skillfully incorporated new concepts without changing the plot of the original. However, I think that when making 3199, they should change the Showa-era style of “let someone die to make us cry.”

In 3199, there’s no need for Domon and Ageha to die in battle, and I want Sasha, who only lived for a year, to survive and live happily ever after. It’s strange that Starsha, who sacrificed herself to save her daughter, would ask her to “sacrifice yourself for the Earth.”

Even if Sasha survived, she and Kodai wouldn’t be able to become lovers because of Yuki. So I think she should survive and live on the Galman home planet as a descendant of Iscandar’s royal family. I think Dessler would be happy if he married the daughter of Starsha, whom he loved. Dessler was portrayed badly in 2199, so I think he deserves that much happiness.

It will also be interesting to see how the battle with the Bolar Federation is portrayed in 3199. In the original, if we interpret it favorably, the Gamilans who lived on the colony planet migrated to Galman’s home planet, and the Galman-Gamilas fleet sent and used the products produced on the colony planet. Well, they probably didn’t actually think that far. I was in elementary school at the time, so I didn’t think about it either. (LOL)

However, the remake adds the concept that the Garmillans can only survive in specific environments, and the official 3199 website states that the colony’s production capacity has been almost completely lost. This means they’ll have to start by building a weapons production factory on the Galman home planet, and with the Garmillan population plummeting to 30% there will be a manpower shortage.

The original didn’t take this into consideration and simply depicted the Bolar Federation being overwhelmed, but in reality, like in the remake, they’ll probably be fully occupied with defending the Galman home planet.

Will 3199 show them making a comeback from here and defeating Chairman Bemlayze? Even if they do fight him, it probably won’t be near Earth like in Yamato III. This brings into play the planet Shalbart, where there’s an engine that can cross space-time nodes, and I’m curious to see if they fight over it, or if Sasha will provide the engine that can cross space-time nodes as Iscandar technology only to Earth and the Garmillas Empire.

I’m also curious to see if a Garmillas fleet will be deployed as a trump card to turn the tide of the war against the Bolar Federation, and in particular if they deploy a large number of Dessler gunboats and destroy the Bolar fleet with a simultaneous barrage of Dessler cannons. I like the Galman-Gamilas ships from Yamato III the best out of all the mecha in Yamato, so I’m really curious to see if we’ll get to see these ships.

Also, in the original work, Gamilas was destroyed by Dezarium, so in 3199 I would like to see the Garmillas fleet annihilate the Dezarium fleet, including Goruba. Dessler was made too evil in 2199, so I think it would be nice to have a scenario where the Kazan fleet, which is pursuing Yamato from Earth, is annihilated by the Hyper Dessler Cannon.

Dezarium was the most hateful of Yamato‘s enemies in the original work, but in 3199 they adopt a policy of alienating Earth and Garmillas, which adds kind of a small-time feel to them, making them even more hateful. I can never forgive them, so I sincerely hope that every last member of Dezarium is annihilated, and that Shinobu and Kozo, who teamed up with Dezarium, die a miserable death.

Chapter 4 is due to be released in less than three weeks, so I can’t wait for October 10th!! I’m off to the movies straight after my night shift.

My Hopes for 3199

See the original post here

The fourth chapter will finally premiere in 12 days. A six-month gap between screenings is too long, and I don’t have much more to say. But next week, the first few minutes should be uploaded on YouTube, so I’ll have plenty to write about. This time, I’ll write about my hopes for 3199.

In my personal opinion, I feel like Gol Heini died too quickly in 2205. He was such a precious character, so if he really was going to die, I think he should have had a better moment. That’s why I feel like Heini is still alive.

IDEA: Sasha is being held captive in a prison cell by Skaldart. Skaldart appears with his guards.

Skaldart: “Your Yamato will be destroyed by my Goruba fleet.”

Sasha: “If Yamato is destroyed, there’s no point in continuing to live here. I hope you’ll be executed.”

Skaldart: “Let’s have a summary trial. Come!”

At that moment, Sasha elbows the guard and takes his gun, pointing it at Skaldart. The background music for Dessler’s attack plays.

Sasha: “I’ll be leaving now. This room is too small for the Queen of Great Iscandar!”

Guard: “Lord Skaldart!”

Skaldart: “Calm down!”

At this point, Heini appears.

Heini: “Lady Sasha, this way!!”

Sasha: “Oh, Heini?!”

Sasha releases Skaldart just before she boards a Dezarium fighter, leaving behind her signature line: “Thank you for your hard work, Skaldart!!”

Skaldart, now hysterical, says: “Fire! Shoot those two!”

The two steal the aircraft and successfully escape just before the launch gate closes. Heini uses his outstanding piloting skills to elude pursuit.

Berger: “How reckless of him to charge in alone. Prepare to fire the main gun!!”

Heini: “Wait, Lady Sasha is on board!!”

All Garmillans: “Oh, Lady Sasha!!”

Then, having rescued Sasha, Dessler gives the order to fire the Hyper Dessler Cannon. Just when you think Dezarium’s home planet is safe now that the gate has been closed, even their vaunted phase transformation armor is no match for the Hyper Dessler Cannon, and the planet is destroyed.

Sasha survives and becomes Mrs. Dessler, providing spiritual support for the Garmillas Empire. The Dezarium people’s policy of alienation between Earth and Garmillas is also exposed, and the rebels, including Shinobu, Kozo, and others, are executed by Earthlings for inciting foreign aggression.

Don’t you think this would be the best outcome? I thought Heini died too easily, so a surprise like this is better!! In today’s anime, heroines this strong are more popular with fans!! Also, Seiya Kitano is such a great character, so it seems unnatural that he would defect to Dezarium’s side. That’s why I think he might have been sent in by Director Todo to spy on Dezarium and the rebels, including Shinobu.

I think the story goes something like this: fans are shocked, thinking “Kitano betrayed us…” but then it turns out he was actually on our side after all!

Only 12 days left until the movie hits theaters, and the wait is killing me!! Everyone, please be sure to see Chapter 4!!
