It’s a little sad that the only thing I could photograph
was the sign at the theater entrance

I went to see Be Forever Yamato REBEL 3199 Chapter 2 Red Sun’s Sortie (that’s a long title!).
~Spoilers~
The new series reconstructs the story as one big “saga” from the first to the finale, and the timeline and the relationships between the interstellar nations are quite different from the old series.
In addition, like the first chapter, the number of characters has increased and the various concepts have become more detailed and deeper, so for old fans like me who have only seen part of the new series and have not acquired any prior information, it makes you wonder, “Why are the names of the ‘Bolar Federation’ and the ‘Akerius Civilization’ mentioned here?!” and, “Who is from which planet?”
However, when I looked at the commentary sites and the impressions of people who have seen the movie after watching it, it seems that there were more people who could not keep up with the amount of information. Well, there was some confusion, but this time it was more interesting than I expected. Especially Yuki, she’s super cool.
From the first 9 minutes of Chapter 2
The scene where she attacks Isidore from behind would be impossible for Yuki’s character in the old work. And you can get insight of Dezarium’s struggle from the increase in communication traffic. That’s right, I’d forgotten, but she’s a full-fledged “soldier” too, isn’t she?
It’s probably inevitable given the times, but I was dissatisfied with the way women were portrayed in the old series, so I wrote a letter to the official fan club magazine (lol). I’m happy to see Yuki’s success.
And in contrast to Yuki, there is Kodai’s spinelessness. If Yuki saw that, she’d be like, “What are you doing while I’m fighting alone on Earth?” It’s refreshing to see Kodai being as sulky as Amuro, but I’d like to see him awaken soon.
Oh, so that’s why the one Alphon is holding
in the poster isn’t Yuki.
As for the other heroine, Sasha, unlike the old work, she is still a child of her age in the beginning. I was wondering how she would be involved in the story, but based on the developments at the end of Chapter 2, I imagine that Chapter 3 will be something like “Clarisse and the ring” [Cagliostro Castle] or “Sheeta and the pendant” [Laputa]. Sasha, a “fragment of Iscandar,” will become the “key” that awakens the great power that Dezarium desires.
In the Chapter 3 trailer, Sasha appears as a grown-up, but is that Dessler next to her? If so, we can imagine him rescuing her and taking her to Yamato. I feel like Dessler will be the trigger for Kodai to break out of his spineless state.
Speaking of Sasha, Hiromi Iwasaki’s Galaxy Legend song in Chapter 1 was the tear-jerker for fans of the past, but the emotional highlight of Chapter 2 was the casting of Keiko Han and Megumi Han together. When I heard Mother Dezarium’s voice, I wondered, “Huh? Could that be the voice?” and then I discovered Keiko Han’s name in the credits.
It’s been 50 years since the first series began airing, and many of the voice actors who appeared in the old series have passed away, so I was happy to be able to hear familiar voices. What’s more, it was a very clever move to have Keiko’s daughter Megumi play the role of Sasha (Mio).
As an aside, Keiko Han was the one who voiced Lalah and Iselina in Mobile Suit Gundam.
Well, Yamato has finally been released, but the story isn’t progressing very quickly (lol). As an old fan, I feel like I’m being made to wait. Until Chapter 3 in April next year, I’ll keep imagining how Dezarium’s “lie” will be revealed.
