Now in charge of border security, Yamato is returning to Earth when a mysterious enemy attacks it. It marks the beginning of an invasion of Earth by Zordar, the great emperor of the Comet Empire of Gatlantis.

Yamato encounters the newly-built battleship Andromeda above Earth, but Kodai refuses to give way. Captain Hijikata scolds Kodai, but the restored Earth is clearly in decline.

An unknown message caught by Yamato‘s communication device conveyed a crisis in the universe. Kodai spoke about this at the defense council, but no one took it seriously. Kodai decided to solve the mystery of the message alone, on Yamato.

After completing the remodeling, the former crew members gathered one after another on Yamato. Protecting the peace of the universe — even the stigma of being a rebel was insignificant in the face of that mission. Yamato breaks the surface of the sea and takes off! The time has come for a new journey.
(5) “We are heading for the scheduled encounter area, but we have not yet confirmed Yamato.” (Hijikata)
The defense force staff orders Andromeda to stop Yamato. The two battleships pass through the asteroids and face each other in Jupiter’s moon area. However, Captain Hijikata, upon learning of Yamato‘s spirit, sent an angry message to Yamato and a false report to Earth.

Naska’s fleet attacks the 11th planet. Yamato immediately heads to the rescue. Yamato‘s main guns, which have an increased range, destroy the enemy battleship. Saito and the Space Cavalry, fighting the tank unit, are on the verge of being completely wiped out, but are rescued by Cosmo Tigers and taken aboard Yamato.

As Yamato approaches the planet Telezart, the crew encounters a swarm of space fireflies. However, they are bacteria that eat iron. It was Dessler who set the trap! He was rescued by the Comet Empire and returned from the void of death with the sole determination to defeat Yamato.

Gamilas’ dive-bombing attacks continue, and Yamato is in a difficult position. However, the enemy aircraft carrier is also invaded by space fireflies. Taking advantage of this opportunity, Yamato counterattacks with its main guns and overcomes the crisis.

After defeating the Zabaibal tank corps on the planet Telezart, Kodai and his friends meet Teresa. Love blossoms between Shima and Teresa… but their respective positions and missions tear them apart.

The white comet is approaching the planet Telezart. Teresa uses her psychic powers to make the planet Telezart explode and try to stop the white comet. However, the Comet Empire, although wounded, begins its advance again.
(15) “The acting captain…he’s a good guy…” (Saito)
Despite suffering a major blow, thanks to Teresa’s desperate efforts, the Comet Empire orders the Baruze fleet to enter the solar system. Meanwhile, Kodai understands Saito’s desire to mourn the spirits of his subordinates and orders a reconnaissance of the eleventh planet. The two share a warm friendship…

However, the Comet Empire suddenly appears in the solar system and destroys the Earth fleet with a missile attack, killing Captain Hijikata in battle.
