Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-1
Andromeda
The symbol of the postwar Earth Federation Defense Forces
The AAA-1 Andromeda is the first ship of the Andromeda class, a Wave-Engine vessel built after the Battle of Garmillas. Based on the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept that was evolving behind the scenes, this ship was hastily built as the flagship of the Earth Federation Defense Forces space fleet.
Its most distinctive feature is the double Wave-Motion Gun mounted on its bow, which evolved from the same equipment used on Yamato. It is commonly known as the “Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun” because of its ability to simultaneously fire at multiple targets through the radiation and dispersion of Wave-Motion Energy. It is also equipped with a new concept of anti-aircraft armament and subspace torpedoes based on lessons learned in the battle against Garmillas. It is said that its combat power surpasses that of Yamato.
In addition, the ship’s operations are automated to save labor and drastically reduce the number of crew members. The bridge can be manned by just four people: the captain, XO, tactical officer/navigator, and communications officer. Andromeda participated in actual combat for the first time in the top-secret “Recapture of the Eighth Floating Continent” operation, where the ship freely demonstrated its power.

Hull Structure
The Andromeda class is a special version of the main “class D” ships in the Wave Gun fleet concept. Class D is an up-and-coming ship design based on the Garmillas’ Gaiderol and other battlecruisers. Together with its advanced form, the Andromeda class, it is a testament to the technical specialization from the Garmillas.
The Andromeda class identification number “AAA” stands for “Advanced Ability Armament. In addition to the namesake Andromeda, four sister ships of the class have been built. (Two of them are of the aircraft carrier type).
Armament/Gimmicks
Along with the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun, the Andromeda class is characterized by
a completely new concept of anti-aircraft armament. This is based on Yamato‘s experience of struggling against the Garmillas’ assault tactics, which made full use of short-range warp. This class has enhanced firepower and defensive capability in close combat by means of anti-ship grenade projectors and Dispersion pulse laser cannons.
In addition, there is applied technology such as the wave barrier with improved bullet avoidance rate and action time, and the improved shock field cannons.
Flagship of the Earth Federation Space Fleet equipped with a Wave-Motion Engine
After the Garmillas War, the AAA-1 Andromeda was newly designed and built as the flagship of the Earth Federation Space Fleet. Like Yamato, it was equipped with a Wave-Motion Engine in addition to a dual-dimensional wave implosion emitter, (known as a “Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun”) and various other armaments based on Yamato‘s combat lessons. It could be called the strongest spacecraft on Earth in 2202.
Naturally, it was a ship that violated the alliance with Iscandar, which forbade the military use of Wave-Motion Engines, especially their conversion into Wave-Motion Guns. However, the Earth Federation Forces ignored this and decided to build the Andromeda class. The background of this decision was the plan to form a space fleet of Wave Gun-equipped vessels (the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept). The main ship of this fleet was to be the D1 Vanguard Spaceship Dreadnought, but the super-large ship Andromeda was built as a special version of the D1.
The Andromeda class, with Andromeda as the namesake, had five ships in service just before the outbreak of the Battle of Gatlantis. This class was of great significance in the Battle of the Eighth Floating Continent and the Battle of Saturn.
Hull Structure
The Andromeda class boasts a hull more than 100 meters longer than Yamato. Its basic structure is similar to Yamato, with bow Wave-Motion Guns and barrel-type turrets, and a Wave-Motion Engine stored in the rear of the hull. The background of this structure is thought to be the development lineage of ships equipped with Earth-made Wave-Motion Engines.
The basic structure of the Dreadnought class, which corresponds to a mass-produced version of Yamato, is based on the basic structure of the Gaiderol class space battleship of Garmillas, which may be related to its specifications.
Bridge
The Andromeda class is a much larger ship than Yamato, but its crew was reduced to about 20% (Yamato had 999 crew members before its refit, and Andromeda has about 200). This is the result of a great deal of automation. The payload was also increased due to compression of the crew compartments. The bridge structure was reduced to save labor, and the number of bridge personnel was reduced to 4-6 people. The sub-bridges below the second bridge also seem to have been eliminated or simplified.
Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-2
Aldebaran
The second ship of the Andromeda class, which played a key role in Earth’s defense
Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-2 Aldebaran is a sister ship of the Andromeda class, equipped with a Wave Engine. Of the five ships of the class, three (including the namesake vessel) are of the battleship type, pursuing the function of a general combat ship. Aldebaran, the second ship of the class, is one of them. Its most distinctive feature is that it has a greater fighting capability than Yamato due to its weaponry, including the double-barreled Wave-Motion Gun on its bow.
Aldebaran is assigned the identification number U.N.C.F. AAA-0002-2202. The hull is painted navy blue to represent a squadron leader. This hull color is said to be derived from camouflage used for anti-Martian weapons during the Inner Planet War in the 2180s. The original red camouflage color was changed to navy blue to match the blue of Mars, which was undergoing terraforming. After terraforming ceased and Mars returned to red, the navy blue remained. Aldebaran belongs to the 7th Fleet, as does Apollo Norm, the third ship of the fleet.

Hull Structure
Aldebaran‘s hull structure is exactly the same as Andromeda and Achilles, and is a development of the main “class D” ship of the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept. At 444 meters in length (114 meters in width and 140 meters in height), it is one of the largest vessels of the Earth Federation Defense Forces.
It is equipped with a wide variety of guns and other weapons in various parts of its huge body, including the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun on its bow. The ship is equipped with an emphasis on close combat with a Wave-Motion barrier created by its Wave-Motion Engines. It has demonstrated overwhelming performance in both offense and defense.
Armament/Gimmicks
In consideration of the success of Yamato‘s Air Corps in the last war, the Andromeda class is capable of operating a large number of aircraft. These battleships are equipped with 36 Type 1 Cosmo Tiger IIs, equivalent to two squadrons (they can be replaced by the Cosmo Falcon). It also carries two Type-100 space reconnaissance aircraft, two SC97 “Cosmo Seagull” space transports, and two internal fireboats. The landing and takeoff ports are located on the underside of the stern, as on Yamato.
Squadron leader, the second ship of the Andromeda class
The Andromeda class is a special version of the Dreadnought class, the main ship of the Earth Federation Space Fleet, which was reorganized after the Garmillas War. Five Andromeda class vessels were in service before and after the outbreak of the Battle of Gatlantis. The second of these ships was the Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-2 Aldebaran. The captain was Tani Dozo.
Like the first ship, Andromeda, AAA-2 Aldebaran was commissioned as a battleship type. There is no difference in hull structure or armament, only in the paint scheme, which is mainly navy blue with white lines. The dark blue color of the Earth Federation Space Fleet designates a squadron leader (in this case, squadron flagship).
In the absence of Andromeda, it is considered to be the flagship of a relatively small space fleet. The same is true of the third Andromeda class ship, AAA-3 Apollo Norm, which also has the same color scheme.
Until the Battle of Saturn, Andromeda often operated in a space fleet consisting of four other Andromeda class ships and Dreadnought class ships. During the defense of Mars, Aldebaran served as the flagship of the Earth side of the Earth-Garmillas combined fleet. At this time, although she was damaged, she seemed to be able to retreat successfully.
Hull Structure
Aldebaran, a battleship of the Andromeda class, differs little from Andromeda and Achilles, the first and fourth ships of the class with the same specifications. Its armament is also the same, making it suitable for joint operations with other ships of the same class and the Dreadnought class. The dark blue paint, indicating a squadron leader, is the same as that of the third ship, Apollo Norm. The white line is the same for the second and fifth ships.
Bridge
The Andromeda class was made possible by the labor savings associated with automation, and the same is true for the bridge. Whereas the standard bridge crew for Yamato was nine plus an AI robot, the standard bridge crew for the Andromeda class has been reduced to four. Even so, the bridge is undoubtedly an important part of the ship, and is protected by shock field guns.
Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-3
Apollo Norm
A carrier-type conversion of the Andromeda class with enhanced aircraft operation capability
Yamato‘s voyage taught many valuable lessons, one of which was the utility of onboard aircraft. This brought about a change in Earth’s concept of spaceships, which had no concept of an aircraft carrier before the war against Garmillas. The existence of the AAA-3 Apollo Norm, a vanguard armed spaceship, is a testament to this change.
Apollo Norm is a Wave Engine ship based on the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept, the third ship of the Andromeda class. This initiative, which was launched after the Garmillas war, included the construction of a new carrier from the planning stage. Therefore, two of the first five Andromeda class flagships were built as carrier-type vessels.
These vessels, which acquired superior aircraft operating capabilities, were to be used in the rebuilding of the Earth Federation’s space fleet. Apollo Norm is the first of its kind, an Andromeda class ship converted into a carrier by enhancing its aircraft capability. Therefore, it inherited many of the class’ armaments, such as the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun. It is also characterized by its high combat power.

Type 1 space fighter attack aircraft (Cosmo Tiger II) X 180 (10 air squadrons)
Type-100 space reconnaissance aircraft X 2
SC97 “Cosmo Seagull” general-purpose transport aircraft X 2
Internal fireboats X 2
Hull Structure
Apollo Norm and the other Andromeda class carrier was built using the same hull structure. Specifically, a hangar for aircraft launch and landing was added behind the bridge, and hangar space inside the hull was expanded. For this reason, some armament was removed, such as the third and fourth main guns. As a replacement, 10 large torpedo tubes were installed on both sides of the below-deck structure. The hangar structure extends to the rear of the ship, extending its overal length by about 40 meters.
Armament/Gimmicks
The launch and landing structure, added at the rear of the bridge, is equipped with six double-deck launch ramps on each side, which are pointed diagonally forward. Inside are linear catapult launchers, which can launch two aircraft per port, up to a maximum of 24 aircraft. The structure has a landing area on the upper surface and a landing port at the stern. The short torpedo tubes on the port and starboard bulges of the ship were removed. The landing ports are designed to be extended outward, giving the ship an extremely high level of aircraft deployment capability.
An Andromeda class carrier built to take advantage of the Battle of Garmillas
The Earth Federation Defense Force, which sought to rebuild the naval fleet that had been depleted during the Battle of Garmillas, proceeded to build ships equipped with Wave-Motion Engines based on the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept. At the same time, based on lessons learned from the Battle of Garmillas, it adopted the concept of operating aircraft on board. The result was the Andromeda class carrier type. Of the five ships of the class built in the early stages of the war, the third and fifth ships were completed as carriers.
AAA-3 Apollo Norm is the third ship of the Andromeda class, built as a carrier type. It is classified as a Vanguard Armed Spaceship, the same as the battleship class with additional facilities for operating aircraft. It has a unique hull structure with a huge launch and landing facility located behind the conning tower.
It also inherits most of the class’ powerful weapons, giving it both aircraft operation capability and combat capability at an extremely high level. Apollo Norm, with these capabilities, was the core of the Wave Gun fleet along with the other Andromeda class ships. However, it was caught in the hyper gravity of the Comet City Empire during the Gatlantis War in 2202 A.D. (the Battle of Saturn), and was sunk.
Hull Structure
The hull structure of Apollo Norm and other Andromeda class carriers basically follows that of the battleship type. In addition, operational capability has expanded by adding a hangar for launching and landing aircraft behind the conning tower. In addition, some of the gun batteries were removed, such as the third and fourth main guns, and the hangars inside the hull were expanded.
Bridge
In order to acquire and improve the operational capability of carrier-based aircraft, some of the artillery weapons were eliminated. However, the Andromeda class’ tremendous firepower, symbolized by the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun on the bow, was maintained.
Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-4
Achilles
The fourth ship of the Andromeda class with grey hull color
The AAA-4 Achilles is the fourth ship of the Andromeda class of Vanguard Armed spaceships based on the “Wave Gun Fleet” concept. It is one of the first three battleships of the class to be built. Its structure and functions are exactly the same as those of the namesake ship, Andromeda. It was designed as a Wave Engine ship equipped with a double Wave-Motion Gun.
The identification number is U.N.C.F. AAA-0004-2202. The triple A stands for “Advanced Ability Armament.” Its four-digit number designates it as the fourth ship, followed by the year of completion. Achilles was launched with the other ships of its class at a spectator ceremony attended by the President of the Earth Federation and other dignitaries. Afterward, she became the core of the Wave Gun Fleet after conducting maneuvers in Jupiter’s orbit.
However, the Wave Gun Fleet was defeated in its first battle, the Battle of Saturn. The ship replaced the damaged Andromeda, which had left the front lines, and supported the battle for the Mars Absolute Defense Zone. After being slightly damaged in that battle, it is believed that she reached the end of the Gatlantis campaign without returning to the front.

Hull Structure
The hull structure of Achilles is identical to that of Andromeda and Aldebaran, characterized by a linear shape that differs from older vessels in operation at the time of the Battle of Garmillas. Her hull color is the same as Andromeda, but in a certain tone of gray with a white line on the side. This coloring is the same as that of the fifth ship, Antares.
Armament/Bridge
The 40.6cm triple turret shock cannon was adopted as the main gun of the Andromeda class, including Achilles. It is smaller in diameter than Yamato‘s main guns, but the beam energy and firing speed is increased due to the enlargement of the beam generator and the addition of positron concentrators inside the gun barrels. The positron concentrator also functions as an extra chamber when firing live ammunition.
Vanguard Armed Spaceship AAA-5
Antares
One of the Andromeda class carrier-type ships that supported the Wave Gun Fleet
The AAA-5 Antares is the fifth ship of the Andromeda class, one of the two carrier-type ships built in response to the Earth Federation Defense Force’s “Wave Gun Fleet” concept, which aimed to expand the war potential of ships equipped with Wave Engines.
Reflecting lessons learned from the Battle of Garmillas, which demonstrated the usefulness of shipboard aircraft, it was designed as a carrier. Under this concept, the Andromeda class was given the capability to carry and operate a maximum of 180 aircraft, the equivalent of 10 squadrons. In addition, it has almost the same firepower as the battleships in the Andromeda class, giving it high performance as a combat ship.
Antares, along with its four sister ships, was built in the early stages of the war and played a central role in the Wave Gun Fleet. During the Battle of Saturn, Antares rescued the crew escaping from Yamato as it was being sunk by the White Comet. It is believed that part of Yamato‘s air force was incorporated and deployed to the battle of the Mars Absolute Defense Zone. The “Time Fault” arsenal was also building the sixth and later ships of the same class following Antares, but the ratio of carrier-type ships is unknown.

Hull Structure
The conversion of the Andromeda class into a carrier-type ship is centered on the addition of a shipboard aircraft operation facility to the rear of the bridge tower. The hull structure of Antares follows this design and has the same features as the third ship, Apollo Norm. Although some of the weapons were removed, the class’s attack power, represented by the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun, is still present. Antares is not a squadron leader, so it has adopted a grey hull color, which is different from the dark blue of Apollo Norm.
Bridge
The Andromeda class battleship type has a crew of about 200, but the carrier type has a significantly increased crew of about 800. This is likely due to the addition of pilots and maintenance personnel for onboard aircraft. In addition, the inside of the bridge has been slightly modified. Two operator seats were added to control the carrier strike group, including coordination with the escort fleet, and to control the air force.
Incidentally, Antares was captained by Shigeru Tomiyama, who was the same age as Andromeda captain Osamu Yamanami.
Vanguard Armed Spaceship ZZZ-0001
Andromeda Kai
Andromeda retrofit incorporating unmanned autonomous combat ship design
As its name suggests, the ZZZ-0001 Andromeda Kai is a Vanguard Armed Spaceship, a refit of the first Andromeda class ship AAA-1. Although Andromeda had high expectations as the flagship of the Wave Gun Fleet, the bow and Wave Engine were damaged in the Battle of Saturn. After returning to Earth, Andromeda underwent emergency repairs and major refurbishment at the arsenal in the “Time Fault.”
At that time, the concept was introduced of an unmanned autonomous combat ship, which had been under development. It was reborn as a prototype model to serve as a demonstration test of a high-mobility combat system for unmanned vessels. The identification number was changed to ZZZ-0001, meaning “Zero-Zero-Zero.”
After being refurbished, Andromeda Kai became the flagship of a new fleet designated YF-2203, which was composed of the autonomous unmanned combat ship BBB “Andromeda Black” (also known as the Yamanami Fleet) and deployed to the battle of the Mars Absolute Defense Zone. Although the ship sank after a solitary battle, it performed an exceptional feat in rescuing Yamato from the Comet City Empire.

Anti-aircraft pulse laser turret X 4 (at the base of the conning tower)
Large number of pulse laser guns (both sides)
Rapid-firing torpedo tubes X 4 (both aft and port sides)
Hull Structure
One of the features of the Andromeda Kai is the Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun on the bow, which has been strengthened to a 4-barrel type. This is the same method as the Dreadnought class, using a splitter (energy jet splitter rectifier plate) to separate the energy waves. It has an improved ability to attack multiple targets simultaneously compared to the previous type.
In addition, as part of a combat system for unmanned vessels, an enormous number of high-mobility nozzles has been added to each part of the hull, giving it extremely high maneuverability.
Bridge
Andromeda Kai was designed as an unmanned ship. The risk involved in operating it as an autonomous weapon was addressed by having a only single crew member on board. This was a specification that accommodated the opinion of Captain Yamanami, who prioritized the rescue of Yamato.
The bridge layout is almost the same as before the conversion, but all seats other than the captain’s seat and the tactical seat were removed. The single crew member was required to wear a reinforced space suit in order to withstand high-mobility combat operations.
Autonomous Unmanned Combat Ship BBB
Andromeda Black
Andromeda class unmanned combat ship that supported Earth’s humanity in the fight against the enemy
The Andromeda Black (BBB), an autonomous unmanned combat ship, is an interwar ship of the Earth Federation Defense Forces that was modified from the AAA (Andromeda class) to operate unmanned.
The Andromeda class was originally designed to be labor-saving in order to improve operational efficiency. The Earth Forces, faced with the need to secure more military power in the battle against Gatlantis, decided to completely eliminate the need for a crew in order to deploy a large number of them on the front lines. The autonomous unmanned system was already in operation on the main battle ships of the Dreadnought class, making it easy to switch production lines and speed up mass production.
Andromeda Black, which was built in time for the Gatlantis invasion of the solar system, was produced in the same way. The first mass-produced ships were put into operation immediately after the Battle of Saturn. Furthermore, the unmanned Andromeda fleet YF-2203 was formed with the Vanguard Armed Spaceship ZZZ-0001 Andromeda Kai as the flagship. It launched a surprise attack on the Comet City Empire in the battle for the Mars Absolute Defense Zone.

Hull Structure
Andromeda Black is an unmanned version of the Andromeda class design with the same hull structure. On the other hand, the elimination of the passenger shell enables high maneuverability. High-mobility nozzles installed in various parts of the hull enable the ship to behave like a torpedo boat. The Dispersion Wave-Motion Gun on the bow and other gunnery weapons have the same configuration as the Andromeda class, but the onboard aircraft were eliminated.
Coloring
Andromeda Black‘s identification code BBB stands for “Black-Berserk-Battalion.” It features the jet-black hull color that represents its name. The first model was given the ship number 0001, and subsequent mass-produced vessels were left unregistered to prevent information leaks to Gatlantis. There is a biblical verse on the side of the hull, (Psalm 23:4), which can be said to express the prayers of the people of Earth who were on the verge of extinction.
Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no eveil, for you are with me, and your rod and your staff, they comfort me.”
Neu Balgrey
Andromeda class of Garmillas specifications produced under license
After the last war, Garmillas formed a military alliance with Earth. In exchange for several colonies, Garmillas purchased a portion of the rights to use Earth’s “Time Fault” arsenal. By allocating its power to increased production of spaceships, the aim was to strengthen Garmillas’ ability to respond to hostile forces. If Garmillas were to jointly fight with Earth against Gatlantis, Garmillas could augment its fleet with Earth technology. The CCC-01 Neu Balgrey is one such ship.
Neu Balgrey is a licensed production of the Andromeda class carrier type developed by the Earth Federation Defense Forces. The design of the prototype was retained, but the control equipment and ship-handling system were changed to Garmillas style. It was adopted as a large aircraft carrier for the Garmillas military, replacing the existing Gaipellon-class multi-tiered carriers.
Four ships of the same type, including this ship, were built in advance to form a carrier strike group. Deployed in the battle for the Mars Absolute Defense Zone during Gatlantis’ invasion of the solar system, it demonstrated overwhelming performance against the Medalusa class annihilation type heavy battleships.

Neu Balgrey and her sister ships, produced under license, have the same basic structure as the Andromeda class carrier type. The identification code CCC stands for “Crimson-Camaraderie-Carrier.” The four ships that preceded her were named Neu Lambea, Neu Schderg, and Neu Darold, named after the Gaipellon-class and Gelvades-class naval carriers that had served in the previous war.
Armament/Gimmicks
Neu Balgrey (and its variants) are designed to be operated by Garmillas crews. The electronic equipment for air traffic control and the ship handling system have been replaced with Garmillas-style versions. The internal structure of the bridge has also been modified accordingly, with the number of operator’s seats reduced by one.
In addition, as a mechanism unique to the Garmillas specifications, the bridge is fitted with a search and communication system that combines the Gaipellon-class bridge antenna and the port radar.
