OsakaShion

5 hectic days since the end of January

From the blog of singer Yuuki, February 3. See the original post here.

Maybe it was because I was spending busy days thinking about various things and singing, but when I got home last night it felt like the first time in about 2 weeks.

Hi, it’s Yuuki! Today I’m going to talk a little bit about the Space Battleship Yamato concert. I was completely engulfed in Yamato music for 3 days including the rehearsal. Even at the rehearsal stage, Osaka Shion’s sound is so exciting that it makes my heart dance, I love it. (embarrassed)

But even so, Akira Miyagawa Akira says things like, “I want you to think of this as “n’dadadah”, not “ttatata” like that.” And there are scenes where he conveys to the whole group or to the instrument section the image of how to make the sound, the feeling of how to leave the sound, and sometimes the visual image.

Then when you actually make it into sound, there is a clear difference! It’s amazing even before it’s been conveyed, right? Even so, it goes beyond that because Akira-san has a clear idea of the sound he wants to express, and his choice of words to convey it is wonderful.

Because he has a high level of trust in Shion, and because Shion has a sharp antenna, he is able to share his image very quickly. So even if it’s not a piece I sing, just listening to Akira’s words and Shion’s sound, I feel like I have something “good” in my drawer.

It’s been a few years since I was in charge of singing in the Yamato concerts conducted by Akira-san, but I get nervous every time and learn a lot. After all, it was originally a wonderful scat by Kazuko Kawashima . I heard her voice, and many people have that image when they come to the concerts so I thought I must not destroy that.

But I can’t become Kazuko Kawashima. I incorporate into myself the image Kawashima-san produced, especially in The Infinitely Expanding Universe, using the maximum of what I have so that I can perform to the best of my ability. When written in letters, it’s just one character, “A”, but expressing it just that “A” is incredibly deep. It’s the feeling of an infinitely expanding starry sky.

The group name for the male chorus was decided on the day of the concert: Yamato Male Voice Quintet. Their voice was clear even though it is low. It was firm and really wonderful, sparkling and spine-tingling.

In the song Yamato!! A New Voyage, their voice is manly and slightly sad, enveloping the venue. The harmony in the chorus gave me goosebumps, and I clapped and clapped and clapped. I want to hear it again.

The man in the photo between me and Akira-san is Nobuhiko Tsukamoto. He came on behalf of Isao Sasaki. He’s the ultimate savior of this time!! He is active in Nagoya and is also a friend of Akira-san, but it was a miracle that he was free on the day of this concert.

It was his first time, participating in the dress rehearsal on the day of the performance, but he sang with a magnificent voice. I was really blown away. And he has a cute smile.

After the performance, there were many people in the dressing room foyer, but someone standing next to Tsukamoto-san said to me, “Umm, we worked together in Hamamatsu…” and I was so happy! On February 18, 2018, at Hamamatsu Act City, we performed at the Akira Miyagawa Festival, a concert on Akira’s special day. The person in the center of the photo who I performed with was Kato Eriko.

At the beginning I said I’d talk a “little bit,” but it’s gotten a bit long. Maybe I’ll write more at another time. I’ll continue to improve myself every day so I can stand on stage in a Yamato concert again.
