Released to the world on February 14, this one was packed with quick-change images that build up several fascinating scenarios. Here’s our analysis from start to finish…

On the veranda of Alphon’s command post, Yuki looks out to the horizon as Alphon recounts his recent excursion.

Alphon: I met Kodai. He’s a tough man.

Alphon: Next time, I might have to kill him.

Yuki reacts and we cut to the first shot of Yamato emerging from a cloud and firing in all directions.

Quick inserts of Kodai in pilot helmet and Sada in the Dezarium gallery space.

Kodai: Mistakes…

Nanbu (voice over): …must be corrected.

Space Calvary troopers in mobile armor line up for action in what looks like another Dezarium facility.
Then we cut to Megumi Kanzaki, who we haven’t seen for a while. She now wears the same jewel on her neck that we’ve seen on Dezarium personnel.

On board Yamato, Domon gets into a tussle with Ageha (again). They were friends in the academy until something unspecified happened to put them at odds with each other. Maybe this time we’ll find out what.

Ageha (voice over): He’s facing them head on. (Probably talking about Kodai)

Alphon is back in his “battle body” and charging forward in a Dezarium fighter.

He takes a shot and Kodai’s Cosmo Tiger (designated by the red tail fins) dodges it.

Back on Earth (probably), Yasuo Nanbu faces off against his father, who has taken the side of Dezarium.

Nanbu’s father: Yasuo…

Title shot: Yamato hurtles forward in pitched battle against Dezarium mecha.

To the delight of longtime fans, we then get our first look at Arizona, moored in drydock on Earth. Its shock cannons activate and power up to fire through their sleeves.

Voice: Main guns, fire!

A shock cannon burst blasts through the dock building and tears across the surface of a nearby lake, boiling the water as it stretches out.

Hoshina (voice over): This operation will be a signal for the anti-Dezarium forces to rise up.

The blast finds its way across the water and zeros in on its target: the Grand Reverse!

It takes a direct hit and is blasted to rubble. Or so it seems.

Another shot of the Nanbus facing each other, then an insert of Sada. Is she watching them?

Voice: Rebellion.

We return to Yamato firing at a cloaked Grodez in what looks very much like the Rainbow Star Cluster.

Yamato‘s omnidirectional radar room is “shattered” as a female crew member sits at her station.

Sanada (voice over): Prepare to activate the omnidirectional radar room.

We cut to Yuki back on Earth…

…apparently about to plunge a knife into the dormant “Earth body” of Alphon while his consciousness is elsewhere.

Nanbu (voice over): Two stars that exist a thousand years apart…

Nanbu holds his aim steady as images move on the wall behind him. Next we see what looks like a Space Cavalry member invading an art museum, apparently about to torch Van Gogh’s Starry Night.

Nanbu (continued): If we burn the one in the museum, what will happen to the painting here?

A shock cannon burst fires downward from the upper atmosphere of Earth, followed quickly by Asuka in a dive-bombing attack.

We cut to Captain Seiya Kitano at the helm, and then return to Kodai in his Cosmo Tiger.

Alphon takes aim at Kodai, evidently prepared to take a killing shot.

Alphon: Are you sure, Yuki? If you don’t do it…

A second Cosmo Tiger climbs upward to intercept the shot. If the editing is in context, this would appear to be Ageha’s fighter.

Kodai (voice over): Ageha!!

Returning to the cloud environment, Yamato fires its rocket anchor toward an offscreen target.

There’s a quick insert of Domon (possibly guiding the anchor), then we see it strike the Grodez.

Domon (voice over): I believe in your intuition.

Yamato‘s guidance rockets fire and the chain goes taut as Yamanami barks an order.

Yamanami: Pull it up!
