Susumu Kodai faces off against the super-giant battleship

Farewell to Space Battleship Yamato

After breaking through the White Comet’s barrier and successfully destroying the Gatlantis Empire from within, Yamato was left in a state of total ruin. With no weapons left, all that remained was to watch the end of the Gatlantis Empire. However, Emperor Zordar of the Gatlantis Empire had one last trump card. A super-giant battleship emerged from within Gatlantis and began firing on Earth. Yamato was powerless to stop it.

Sitting alongside Yuki in the captain’s seat of Yamato, Kodai resolved to use his own life as a weapon to defeat the evil of the universe and aimed Yamato at the super-giant battleship.

This scene, which swept viewers into a whirlwind of emotion, is considered one of the most memorable scenes in anime history, even said to have sparked the current anime boom.

Space Battleship Yamato: The Endless Battle

Lines selected: Kodai’s soliloquy from TV Episode 24, Kodai’s lament at the end of Farewell, Sasha’s goodbye at the end of Be Forever

Since Space Battleship Yamato, the Yamato series has been made into three theatrical films, one telefeature, and three TV series. Among these, the theme spoken in the first TV series has been inherited as the main theme in the subsequent Yamato.

After destroying the city of Gamilas, Susumu Kodai speaks the word “love.” This is the consistent direction that continues to live on in the lines of Yamato. They fight because they wish for peace, and sacrifice their lives because they love. The love between the protagonists Susumu Kodai and Yuki Mori remains in the hearts of viewers the most in the final scene of Farewell to Yamato. Susumu Kodai loses his beloved friends one after another in the battle against a powerful and evil enemy, and rushes forward risking his own life. There is no one who doesn’t feel something when he expresses his feelings for Yuki, as he hugs her body while sitting next to him.

The “love” that has been passed down in Yamato has been accepted by many generations and is still supported by many fans. The direction of love varies slightly in each work in the Yamato series, but each one leaves us with memorable lines and scenes. The lines in Yamato, which are centered on a common theme, have permeated our hearts and seem to be taken for granted. It’s a memorable line that sticks in our minds when we least expect it
