Half a year has passed since the release of REBEL 3199 Chapter 3 in April 2025. On Friday, October 10th, the long-awaited Chapter 4 will be released. Based on Be Forever Yamato and Yamato III, this chapter marks the midpoint of the series. Let’s look back at the previous chapter and explore the highlights of this one.
Chapter 4: Yamato III Elements Galore!?
Up until Chapter Three, REBEL 3199 has skillfully reconstructed elements from Be Forever and Yamato III to present a new story. Chapter Four opens with the Galman-Garmillas and the setting of Yamato III, including planet Berth. Amidst this scene, how will Yamato‘s voyage proceed?
Chapter Three Synopsis
After Susumu Kodai relinquished his position as Tactical Officer to Ryusuke Domon and became an Air Corps member, he independently analyzed the evasive maneuvers of the Dezarium transparent battleship Grodez. Encountering the Grodez in the treacherous Orpheus Sector, Yamato employed its newly equipped Omnisphere Radar to lock onto the enemy. Confirming that its evasive patterns matched Kodai’s analysis, they attempted capture using rocket anchors. However, Grodez warped away, still carrying the abducted Sasha and Kaoru Niimi.
Meanwhile, on Earth, a partisan force centered around the old Yamato crew launched a counteroffensive against Dezarium. Taking advantage of bombardment from the newly built battleship Arizona, Yasuo Nanbu and the Space Cavalry infiltrated Grand Reverse. With Toru Hoshina as their insider, Nanbu confronted his father. The Van Gogh painting Starry Night housed in the Ageha Art Museum, and simultaneously displayed in Grand Reverse. If the museum’s painting were burned, the work owned by Dezarium (a future Earth) would also vanish. However, after Skaldart declared, “Once the future is corrected, I will cease to exist. That is enough,” the partisans could not bring themselves to burn the museum painting, and their resistance ended in failure.
Heading toward the space-time node, Yamato passed through the sub-space gate of Galman-Garmillas. Grodez ambushed Yamato just outside the gate and attacked. Alphon’s fighter locked onto Kodai’s craft, but Takeshi Ageha sacrificed his own ship to evade the attack. With his craft damaged, Ageha vanished in the sub-space corridor.
In the spherical radar room, Domon called out to Ageha. Though they had been close friends during their days at the Defense Academy, a remark Ageha made at the time of Domon’s father’s death drove a wedge between them. Through psychic resonance mediated by special resonance waves, Domon sensed Ageha’s true feelings. Simultaneously, Ageha’s fighter was detected, and Yamato safely passed through the subspace gate. However, before they could relax, Dezarium’s scheme forced Yamato into battle with Deusula III.
Yamato wanted to stop the battle without attacking. Domon, Ageha, and others launched in the Cosmo Hound. They shattered an asteroid and used magnetron waves to attach the rock fragments to Deusula III, rendering it unable to attack. Though the Cosmo Hound succeeded in the operation, it failed to perform dimensional submersion, and the surrounding hyperspace depth only grew deeper.
True to Ageha’s words that help would come if they waited, the Galman-Garmillas new-type dimensional submarine ship Zerandal appeared and rescued the Cosmo Hound from its predicament. Kel Keeling, the Galman aboard Deusula III, delivered a message from Commander Dessler: he wished to invite Yamato to the Holy City of Ruda on Galman-Garmillas. Sasha, waiting beside Dessler on Galman for Yamato‘s arrival, appeared as a 17-year-old.
What are the highlights of Chapter 4?
Yamato arrives at Galman-Garmillas. Reunion with 17-year-old Sasha!
Invited by President Dessler to the Holy City of Ruda on the planet Galman-Garmillas. Welcomed by Berger and Melda, with whom they fought battles and forged friendships, Yamato lands in the sea surrounded by snow-capped mountains. While Yamato III features many memorable pieces, Dessler’s Palace, the music playing during the arrival at Holy City Ruda, is essential listening. It beautifully accentuates the planet’s beauty.
Yamato‘s landing scene also evokes its arrival at Iscandar. And no wonder; it’s said that Galman holds many ruins from Iscandar. Just as Talan is about to explain this to the crew, a girl in a light blue dress suddenly burst in, shaking off a Garmilloid’s restraint. It is Sasha, now 17 years old. Just two weeks ago, when she was abducted by Dezarium, she was only two years old. Everyone is astonished, but Shiro Sanada seems to grasp the reason: “It’s been two weeks for us, but not for Sasha.”
Sasha appears in her 17-year-old form, just like in Be Forever, but the reason seems different. In Be Forever, it was because “Iscandarians mature quickly,” but in REBEL 3199, as mentioned earlier, there appears to be another reason.
While that reason is certainly intriguing, there’s another point. The whereabouts of Kaoru Niimi, who was abducted alongside Sasha, remain unknown. In Chapter 3, when Berger recovered what appeared to be Sasha’s escape pod during a battle with Bolar, there was only one person inside. Where on earth is Niimi?
Sasha’s line was heard in the Chapter 4 preview: “Uncle, please fire the Wave-Motion Gun.” In Be Forever, this was the line spoken when she sacrificed herself to destroy Dezarium. No one could have predicted hearing it suddenly in Chapter 4. What scene will prompt this line? Keep an eye on Sasha’s role aboard Yamato.
Beyond Sasha’s line, the preview is packed with keywords.
The Battle of Captain Ram of the Ra-Jendora
In Yamato III, the planet Berth is a frozen wasteland. Defeated in battle, the Rajendora fled to the solar system and sought aid from the Yamato. Chapter 4 begins with the sight of Berth, now increasingly cold, where crops barely grow. Seeing this landscape, Ram murmurs, “The Witch of Uralia.”
As a vassal state of the Bolar Federation, Ram of Berth, renowned as a fierce commander fighting against Galman-Garmillas, invades Galman to defeat Dessler. What will be the outcome of this battle…?
On Earth
A social gathering for Earth and Dezarium’s upper echelons is held at the Ageha Art Museum. Beautifully dressed Yuki Mori walks beside Alphon. “I wanted to see you at your most beautiful one last time,” Alphon whispers to Yuki. How do the attendees react to seeing the two together? Have Yuki’s feelings changed?
Amidst the social gathering, there’s also a scene where Alphon, carrying a child on his back, runs through a collapsing building to escape. Dezarium seems to harbor secrets not revealed to Earth’s upper echelons. Will the day come when Yuki joins the partisans, continuing their resistance? Is Alphon a good person after all?
Noteworthy Keywords
Picking up notable phrases that have appeared so far.
The Witch of Uralia: Appears from the very start of this series. The official site states: “Can Yamato truly save Galman and uncover the true identity of the ‘Witch of Uralia’!?” At the beginning of Chapter 4, there’s a remark from Ram that seems related to the cooling of Planet Berth.
Holy City of Ruda: For those familiar with Yamato III, “Ruda” likely brings to mind “Ruda Shalbart” or “Princess Ruda”. She was the Queen of Shalbart and entrusted the Yamato with the Hydrocosmogen Cannon to control the runaway sun. In Yamato III, those who worshipped Shalbart were persecuted on Galman-Gamilas. This series also features an indigenous religion on Galman. Could this religion be connected to Shalbart?
Psychic Resonance: A form of telepathy mediated by special resonance waves. Domon used it to search for the missing Ageha within the sub-space gate. According to Sanada, Sasha is the only one with evidence of having successfully achieved psychic resonance in the past. In Chapter Four, Sasha and Kodai will likely utilize this technology.
Hidden Highlights! The “Previously On” Summary Before the Main Feature
To help first-time viewers enjoy the story, each chapter begins with a “Previously on…” recap explaining events up to that point. Chapter Four revisits the story from Dessler’s perspective. After battling Earth and forging peace, Dessler lost not only the planet Garmillas but also the planet Iscandar and his beloved Starsha in Yamato 2205. Dessler’s “Previous Story Summary,” narrated just before his comeback on the new frontier planet Galman, is another highlight.
The release of REBEL 3199 Chapter 4 is imminent. Having passed the halfway point, the voyage ahead promises to become even more intense. To prepare for what’s to come, be sure to watch Chapter 4 carefully and fully understand it.
