The Space Battleship Yamato Complete Records Exhibition will be held at Seibu Shibuya in Tokyo from March 15th (Sat) to March 31st (Mon). Here, we will introduce the exhibition contents and products that will be sold only at the venue!

Over 1,000 impressive documents

With the cooperation of the Anime Tokusatsu Archives Organization (ATAC), a number of valuable documents have been gathered and will be on public display for the first time. Here are some of them!

In the exhibition area on the 7th floor, numerous intermediate documents such as designs, original drawings, and art will be displayed for the 296,000 light-year journey of Space Battleship Yamato, from the planning stage to the 26 episodes of the TV series.

Once you pass through the entrance, you will see the actual early draft of the visionary project proposal, as well as numerous image artworks that are hard to imagine from the Yamato of today. We will also be showing numerous early character designs that were refined by Leiji Matsumoto, as well as the actual setting materials for the Yamato ship. There will also be a screening of the pilot film!

In the exhibition area that follows the story of the TV series, we will be showing character and mecha designs, storyboards, art, cels, etc. that match the episodes. Be sure to check out the large-scale original drawings and the background paintings of the Yamato spaceship, outer space, and the underground city on Earth, which were drawn at a special size!

In addition, there are corners featuring the cast, magazines and comics, and music & sound effects, a large model of the ship that shows its internal structure, and photo spots with the main characters. The exhibition introduces this monumental work of Japanese animation from various angles with a large number of materials, and is a new attraction for fans who have enjoyed the work so far, as well as those who will be experiencing Yamato for the first time.

A large timeline space tracing Yamato‘s 50-year voyage

In the exhibition area on the second floor, the history of Space Battleship Yamato is introduced chronologically in a large timeline space, from the original in 1974 to the remake series currently being shown in theaters. In addition, we will display as much nostalgic merchandise as possible, including plastic models, and music media such as records that have graced the Yamato series.

In the grand timeline that traces Yamato‘s 50-year voyage, poster visuals from the past, vintage magazine and newspaper clippings, and design drawings from each work are lined up on the walls in chronological order. You can enjoy the events of that era while thinking back to those times. In the center of the room resides a huge 3-meter model of the latest Yamato, making it a room where you can feel the history of 50 years.

In addition to the exhibition, you can’t miss the sale of limited edition goods!
