The Missing Submarine, the Terrifying Space Streams, and Sargasso

A series of dangers attacks Yamato!

The brave Yamato‘s difficult voyage continues. Though the Naska fleet was defeated, the Comet Empire introduces new troops one after another. The atmosphere on board the ship is becoming increasingly difficult between the Space Cavalry and the crew of Yamato!

After defeating the Naska fleet in the battle of Planet 11, Yamato repairs the damage and continues to sail in search of the message’s source. However, this is not the end of the enemy attacks. A new enemy now targets Yamato: a submarine. It is a secret weapon, quietly hiding in the darkness of space. Yamato is aware of its existence and goes on the alert, thanks to its time radar.

Suddenly, it receives a missile attack from the submarine. As soon as Yamato finishes combat preparations, it begins to retaliate. Space mines are dropped and shock cannon guns are fired simultaneously. The Cosmo Tiger squadron launches, and in an instant, all of the submarines are obliterated.

The Comet Empire reveals its ferocious true nature, attacking Yamato with one strike after another. The comet itself is getting closer to Earth every minute.

However, the white comet is not Yamato‘s only enemy. The universe itself, shrouded in mystery, is another. What awaits Yamato, which warps in the direction of the mysterious message, is a violent “space current.” Yamato is about to capsize, but barely manages to keep its balance. The current eventually ebbs, and the ship’s crew is relieved, but not for long.

The space graveyard Sargasso is more terrifying than the cosmic air currents! It is a kind of black hole, which attracts approaching objects like a magnet. Once inside, it is impossible to escape. In this space, time flows much faster than usual. People age rapidly and clothing quickly corrodes. All hell breaks loose on board Yamato. They have to escape quickly. Drifting among the shipwrecks, Yamato is attacked by a missile from somewhere. Can they escape?

It is Teresa’s message the saves the day.

Flashpoint!

Conflict between the Space Cavalry and Yamato‘s crew

The Space Cavalry, led by Hajime Saito, was rescued from Planet 11 and taken on board Yamato. The wounded received extensive medical treatment from Sado and recovered from their fatigue. Yamato, with its time constraints, has no time to take them back to Earth. They have no choice but to continue working together, but tension begins to flow between Yamato‘s crew and the Space Cavalrymen.

It is a small thing, but the bad table manners of the cavalrymen is the first thing to get on Kato and Yuki’s nerves. They eat with their hands and make a mess on the floor and table. When Kato criticizes them, they are not ashamed of this, saying, “What do you know, you who have never eaten a meal covered in mud while you’re fighting?” On the contrary, some of the soldiers even start to scold him, saying, “What does an elite know about how to behave in a castle like this?”

Kodai demands that Captain Saito “make sure all the men on the ship behave in a disciplined manner,” but Saito doesn’t seem to pay any attention to this. Even during the battle with the submarine, he wants to be given a Cosmo Tiger to fly, and asks to fire the shock cannon, since he had been firing field guns just a few days before. It must be hard for a bloodthirsty Space Cavalryman to sit still in a ship he is not accustomed to. This is far from a battle.

Kato even says, “Let’s kick them all off the ship.” In fact, there are fights between Yamato‘s crew and the cavalry here and there. Repairs to damaged parts of the ship are delayed because of this. It is Sado who saves the day. He calms down Saito and Kodai, who are both squaring off. The tense atmosphere is settled, but this is not the end of the matter…

A Comet Empire soldier is captured by Yamato!

Yamato finally succeeds in capturing one of its enemies. As a scout for the Goland vanguard fleet under Commander Destol, a pilot is captured alive by Saito and Kato flying Cosmo Tigers in a dogfight.

The soldier is immediately sent to an interrogation room for a thorough investigation. According to Sado’s examination, the soldier is an Earth human type, but not seen in any previous alien files. Nothing more is known about it. Despite harsh questioning by the interrogator, Yamada, the soldier keeps his mouth tightly closed and does not speak. Kodai thinks, “He’s impressive, despite being an enemy.”

In fact, he escapes in his fighter in the nick of time, but he cannot return to his mother ship. Destol says, “We can’t take back a man who has been captured by the enemy!” This is also because he drank some sake. The only course for this brave soldier, now an orphan in space, is to confront Yamato. He immediately returns and attacks Yamato with his own body,

He shouts “Long live Emperor Zordar!” and slams into Yamato‘s side. The attack is dedicated to the spirit of this soldier who served bravely to the end. Then Yamato faces off against the Destol fleet.

Following the mysterious message

Approaching Planet Telezart!

Yamato destroys every ship in the vanguard fleet commanded by Destol and gradually approaches the planet Telezart. There, the large Goland fleet waits for Yamato!

The Goland fleet is thoroughly crushed by the Wave-Motion Gun!

Yamato is in danger! Goland completes an exercise on a dinosaur planet and waits impatiently for Yamato‘s arrival.

Yamato enters the “Great Meteor Belt.” Immediately, meteorites collide with each other, creating sparks. This meteor shower is as terrifying as the Sargasso. The meteorites drain all of Yamato‘s energy. The engine power decreases, and velocity is reduced. On top of that, missiles from the Goland fleet are launched from outside the meteor belt.

In order to overcome this crisis, the asteroid ring is used for the first time in this mission. The rock mass rotates around Yamato in time to intercept the incoming missiles, deflecting them away. When Goland sees that the small missiles are ineffective, he launches very large missiles.

Yamato, on the other hand, confronts this attack with the Wave-Motion Gun. A beam of light bursts out and slices through the darkness of space. In an instant, the missiles and Goland’s main fleet are destroyed.

As Yamato passes through the large meteor belt, a transmission is received from Dessler. It reads as follows: “I congratulate you all on your hard work. The farce is over. Next comes the real battle with me. Dessler, Leader of Gamilas.”

Dessler is alive! Kodai and the rest of the crew are skeptical about whether they can believe this message. However, Dessler is definitely alive. He leads new troops assigned to him by Zordar, and the remaining Gamilas fleet, in a mission of vengeance against Yamato.

The defeat of Goland’s fleet by Yamato is actually a rather happy event for Dessler, proving why Yamato is worth defeating. Dessler orders Goland’s jamming signal to cease, and communication with Teresa is restored. However, these operational conflicts with the generals under Zordar’s command will bring unexpected humiliation to the proud Dessler….
