I/O magazine, January 1980 issue

Space Battleship Yamato

by Manabu Fukuoka

It has been about a year and eight months since I started reading I/O. I’m a salaryman who has been working with microcomputers for that long, but I’m mostly dedicated to making games. These days, it seems that game programs have been exhausted. I heard that software games are changing to hard and difficult ones, not soft cream. I’m not sure if I can present my own rudimentary game to others, but I’ve been told by some people that it’s interesting, so I became confident enough to submit this article.

Now, the quality of a TK-80BS cannot compare with the images of Invader TV games in game centers. This is a game that is unique to microcomputer BASIC and has been carefully thought out. Space Battleship Yamato Part 1 was a simple game, made in February 1979 without expanding the memory. Then I made a bold decision to expand the memory (TK-M20K) and created Space Battleship Yamato Part 2. Please try to play it. It runs on both Compo BS and TK-80BS.
