  1. On the confusion for the start date for Star Blazers, it must be remembered that this was a barter syndication deal with each individual station ( and some of the ‘webs’, an alliance of stations owned by one company) and not sold to one of the three networks. Stations that were unaffiliated with a network launched their fall seasonal programming based on existing contracts so there will be different dates scattered around. The important thing is everyone started fall in September. Also the start dates might have been part of the contract as the show was released on 16mm film reels, these may have been on a rotation, a weeks worth of episodes would run then be shipped to another station. I sure would like to see what documentation might exist at channel 17’s vault but I expect all that info, contracts, memos, master control logs are all landfill now.

    Great stuff as always Tim!

For us it was WUHQ TV 41, then in 1981 it ran on WWMT 17 which seems to be the last year of the syndication deal.

  2. And I stand corrected by myself. That was 1982 that Star Blazers ran on WWMT, which became WXMI 17 later on. I remember now because of the ad I bought for Bablecon ‘82, which promoted the Star Blazers Microcon. Dave ganked the commercial from my off-air recordings and it’s on YouTube.
