Conditions conspired to give us another slow month in Yamato world, but this is a temporary situation as we all know by now. And really, there is no bad month to be a Yamato fan. So here’s all the news that trickled in during the not-bad month of June…
Here we present a pair of interviews in which Writer Harutoshi Fukui and Director Kenji Yasuda both give their final word on the making of Yamato 2205, unveiling their creative thought process and providing a tiny glimpse at what may come next.
One of the most interesting surprises in Yamato 2205 was not only the unexpected return of Sukeji Yabu, but also his presence as one of the emotional touchstones of the story. This brought his voice actor, Cho, out of the shadows for his first interviews since the remakes began. Three of them are presented here.
1976 was a slow year for Yamato. As “super robots” took over the anime landscape, Yamato fans probably despaired that their show was over forever. In June 2021, a dramatic discovery was made on eBay: a large collection of Star Blazers production scripts being offered for sale. Now they reside in the hands of fandom itself, and you can read The Comet Empire from the same documents as the voice actors did in 1979.

World-reknown confectionary company Ezaki Glico had a huge impact in the mid-70s with inexpensive tie-in products for Japanese idol stars, and they made the jump into anime licensing in October 1978 with Yamato 2 as one of its first properties.
